I stated even before Guru made that post that others have already stated what went on. Not sure why I had to repeat it 6 times. As far as recruiting, no matter what side of that you stand on, unless you have video of the act taking place no one will believe you in the first place so why even discuss it?

Actually if you use as a measuring stick, what elementary school students went to, you will find that urban schools such as Holmes and Newport would lead by huge margins in numbers and percentage of students who start in another school.

 

Remember that people tend to stay for generations in places like Ft. Thomas and Ft. Mitchell and there is little room for growth. So the number your looking for will be very very low. In fact compared to say, Cooper, where 100 to 150 new enrolled show up annually the number of kids in general, as well as participating in athletics, will be much lower at Highlands. Weather measured in raw numbers or as a percentage the measure that you suggest would prove that Highlands is at a disadvantage when compared to other schools due to there very small number of students who 'transfer' weather that be before or during high school.

Perhaps clyde, but if a kid doesn't attend Highlands middle school, and then magically ends up at Highlands high school as a freshman, would that not make him an out of district transfer, yes it does.

 

Also you forgot the Bruns twins that came from Dixie after their freshman year.

 

Are you talking about the Bruns twins whose mother I went to HS with at HHS. We've already addressed that situation.

My point is that the belief that some have that kids "switch high schools" doesn't happen. Bruns boys make 6 since 2003. 1 in 2003. 3 in 2004(all came from CCH) and 2 in the Bruns boys. It's not a common occurrence as some either truly believe or want others to believe.

 

The beauty of NKY is that schools are so close to each other that parents have good choices. I do not subscribe to the belief that you must send your child to the school whose district you reside. Had my boys not gone to CCH then there's a decent chance they would have ended up at Beechwood despite me not living in Ft Mitchell. Easy access for me to a great school. Same with many who decide to send their child to Ft Thomas.

As an outsider with no dog in this fight I feel the need to point out that unless a kid is born making Highlands blue in his diapers then by many people's logic Highlands stole them from some other school that had some claim to them.

If we do that, we'd expect the same from Cooper and I'd bet they'd be similar. It's already been stated. It happens at every school and you hear about the ones that everyone wants to accuse at HHS. You just don't hear about the others. And it's not a transfer from high school to high school. So I don't consider kids moving into a district before high school a transfer. And it doesn't happen as much as you think!!! It's a misperception that a lot of people have! But it gets old hearing it. We all know a "Sam" whose family moved to Ft Thomas. But no one talks about it whan "Joe" moves into Cooper's district.

 

So you get me the info for Cooper and I will do my best to get you HHS's. I wish I had the time because it would really put this to rest and prove some of you very wrong. Outsiders think it's bigger than it is because it's HHS getting a kid that moves into districts and not someone else. They all get them.

I don't understand what people are getting so upset about.

 

Highlands is not breaking any rules.

I personally think they are heads and shoulders the best team in this area and I don't think that will change anytime soon.

 

Does jealousy come into play? Sure does, but that is to the credit of what Higlands has been able to accomplish and they have set the bar pretty high.

 

I applaud their success and hope they continue along the same path.
