To answer your question NCF (by the way, my cousins went to NC.!) Anyway, as you can see, there are a lot of perceptions and misunderstandings around HHS football. Everyone has their theories. (But honestly, Hoopslady's takes the cake for me! Never heard that one before!) I really hope she was kidding!

 

Anyway, HHS is one of the premier public schools in the state for acedemics. I'm sure all the haters are going "here we go again". But let me speak! HHS football does get transfers sometimes. But, 3 times as many kids transfer to HHS for academics. And most of them don't play sports! So all the sports, clubs, academic teams, bands all have "transfers" on them.

 

But I assume you are asking are transfers the reason that set HHS apart from other schools and do the studs transfer in for football. The answer is absolutely not. I'm sure there are some players over the years that say the only reason they went to HHS was because of football. But the attraction to HHS for football didn't start from day one! That had to start somewhere and attract kids to the school to play for a great program and a GREAT education.

 

It also depends on what you call a transfer. For example, I live outside the city now and my boy does not go to HHS district. But he will when he is in middle school. Why, because he is fine in the elementery school where he is at now and it's saving me money. When he gets older, its important to us that he gets the best we can provide and for us that's HHS. Now I have no idea whether he'll even play football at this point, but he's already going to HHS. I went there and so did many other generations in my family. What a lot of these people outside don't realize is several of these so called transfers have deep roots at HHS and come back when their kids can make the transition. Heck the most famous one is Collinsworth. People say he's a transplant, etc. What most dont' realize is he married a girl from HHS that has very deep roots in HHS. Brothers, parents, aunts and uncles...generations! As guys, we all know who usually wins out when deciding where you will plant roots!

 

Another point, we see all the high profile kids that transfer in and have a great career. They are what people see and draw their conclusions about. But they are a very low percentage of kids vs home grown kids that come through the system. Yes, you can sit and rattle off kids from years past and say this guy and this guy, but in the grand scheme of things, you can rattle off 10 times more kids that were home grown and just about as successful. But you only hear about the studs that came in the 9th grade becuase the others aren't as fun to talk about! I've seen and played with "TRANSFERS" that played all four years in high school and never saw the field on Friday nights other than to stretch or on senior night! So again, HHS gets a ton of transfers, some become stars and some don't even play sports.

 

HHS's program had over 120 kids on the football team last year. 5 were tuition students. I know we are talking transfers, but it's not easy to move into Ft Thomas. There aren't a lot of options on houses and it's very expensive. I don't live there right now because of that. So understanding how many tuition students there are and how tough it is to get into and live in Ft Thomas helps paint a picture the 90% of the kids that play for HHS are home grown or products of multiple generations that played at HHS. No one wants the real truth. They rather have excuses for why they can't compete. Not being arrogent her, that's true with all sports and this generation. Don't work harder, point fingers and make excuses. It drives me crazy!!!!!!

Oh the misinformed have taken over this thread. Amazing how little people actually know and then get on a public forum and embarrass themself. Kids come to play football at Highlands because they want to be a part of a program that wins on a consistent basis and their parents are willing to make sacrifices by either moving into the city or deciding to pay tuition. I am not going to play the education card, because there are kids that come to Fort Thomas to play football for a winner and a program that they feel is better for them than the one in which they reside/d in when they were in elementary school. I did not realize that "transfers" took place prior to high school. The situation is no different than those kids that attend CovCath after attending middle school at a non-diocese school or the kids from Walton going to NCC or the kids from Cincinnati going to Holmes, Newport or Holy Cross to play basketball. The common thread though with all of these is that these schools are 'winners' in the respective sports.

Again, I'm waiting for NCF's question to be answered with facts. How many starters each year for the past 6 years say (state championship run) were transfers?

I couldn't name you the starting QB this year. I don't follow them that close to know everyone's names, sorry to disappoint. RCC pretty much stated what happens, and if you know what I know you can actually add to why there may not be as many "tuition" players as some think there is or transfers.

Just that, you named it. I never said on here that Highlands was doing anything against the rules. What I did find interesting though is that even though I never accused Highlands of doing any "wrongdoing" 75center became very defensive toward me as if I accused them of doing wrongdoing.
