Depends on what you want out of your PG, but DJ wasn't exactly team first. He got on his teammates way to much for my liking

As far as him getting on his teammates, that was simply his competitive nature. It obviously didn't have too much of an impact on the relationship with his teammates. They went to Rupp 2 out of 3 years and would've went all 3 years if not for Rice being kicked off the team jr year.

Agreed. No disrespect to 4pointplay or Kellen, but I'd take Duran over Kellen as well and honestly it's not that close if you ask me.

 

As good of player as DJ was, it was his defense that a lot of people forget about. He was very good at that end of the floor and rebounded extremely well for a PG.

 

If he were on a team where he was counted on to score the way Kellen was, he easily averages close to 20 ppg. Teams simply couldn't defend his quickness and strength to go with it.

 

I will say that Kellen probably had a little bit better outside shot. Duran wasn't known for his 3pt shot but had a solid mid range game on in.

 

Duran couldn't score much from outside of 6 or 8 feet. Terrible shooter.

Personally, I'd rather have Hicks in there over Euton, Richardson, Flannary, and possibly Gilbert, especially if it was considering their contributions to an overall "team" concept.

 

Maybe I'm in the minority on this one, but I was never one who was impresssed by Euton. Sure, he could trial a break and hit a 3, and had a sweet skullet, but I don't know how much value he added to those teams, especially in terms of chemistry. This is putting it nicely from someone whose had the pleasure of meeting him.

 

As another poster also mentioned, I'd think a Scott County line-up would be deep enough to include Manning, even if it meant adding him as the #6 or #7. Definitely one of the best of the last decade when it comes to Cardinal hoops.

 

I was thinking that Hicks was more than 10 years ago. Maybe not...

He probably wouldn't start in a one time all-star game, but in a real season of competition, he would have whipped every one of the names on this list with his toughness, hustle and intensity.

Couldn't agree more with you Walter. Again it's a matter of preference. I could care less if my PG can consistently hit a jump shot. If he can lead my team to Rupp twice in his career he's my guy. Some people like stats others prefer wins, I'm of the latter especially if he can raise his teammates "game", even if that means getting in their rear end when they aren't performing.

I'll never forget him kissing the Rupp Arena floor when he fouled out of the state semifinals game against Mason County. One of the best moments I can remember from the Sweet 16.

Smith was a very good player and as stated, that's why he is playing at the next level.

 

Comparing one on one though, I'll take the guy who went to Rupp two out of three seasons. Duran did what he had to do for his team to be successful. He wasn't needed to score but was great at setting his teammates up to be successful. Duran was a Division I athlete, regardless of what happened after. That speaks for itself when comparing the two.

 

A lot of people seem to forget that Duran Jefferson is one of the VERY FEW to play varsity basketball as an 8th grader at Holmes. That simply doesn't happen there.

 

To add to this...here are a few comments about Duran heading in to his junior year from a 9th region preview article:

 

06 to go…you have to go the full-length of the court…who you giving it to? Duran Jefferson, HOLMES…can push it better than anyone in the region, and has a knack for finding creases in a crowd as well as finishing at the basket.

I don't know which player I would have taken, both were really good. However I do know which one is a college athlete, and which one I am tired of hearing how good an athlete he used to be. They also both have themselves to credit/ blame.
