Arrez Henderson - IMO no better defender comes close in NKY. Would check ANY teams best player regardless of size lock them down.

Brandon Hatton - Gets Buckets - nuff said

Elijah Pittman - Say want you want about his attitude at times but I'll take 6'7' with arms long enough to touch the floor any day of the week.

I thought Joey Verax was as good as anyone on their region championship team. I would probably put him in over Kane Belcher. You could almost just go with the entire 05 team.

 

I don't disagree with your opinion at all, but Kane Belcher was 6'8" 200 lbs. and could play the 3-4-5. He's the best defender of everyone on the list. He averaged 18 PPG and 12 RPG in 2006-2007 and was double teamed constantly. Not to mention he's super athletic and played at UPike on a National Championship Team. If we are based on overall talent, Kane Belcher beats out Joey Verax. Verax was a very good high school player don't get me wrong, but Kane Belcher is much more talented.

Jackson was a better player than Sharp.

 

I watched both of them for their entire high school career and I woud take Sharp over Jackson.Sharp was a tough physical point guard who scored, rebounded and defended. His senior year at Scott was one of the best seasons ever for a player at Scott.

Duran was a very good player with tons of ability and potential but if you are talking about true PG's and running their team Kellen Smith from Scott was the better player. Led the area in assists for 3 straight years, shattered the all time assist record at Scott and is also in the top 5 in scoring. 3 time district tournament MVP and when you talk to coaches his leadership and his competitiveness were his two best qualities.

Brandent Englemon, Brandon Smith, Ryan Fischer, Al Huff,Marco Hallman, Deshaun Jackson, "Stretch" Weaver are a few guys I remember and I'm sure I'm leaving off a few.

I'll admit that I haven't seen all of the players that some of the other posters who've weighed in on Pendleton County have listed, but would imagine that it was tough to omit the guards from the state tournament team (Mains? Elrod?) that lost to PRP in OT as well. Along with St. Henry in 2003, Highlands in 1999, and Oldham County in 2001, they are a team that stands out in my memory despite losing in the first round of state.

 

This group stands out in my mind because of the grit and determination they showed, especially come gut-check time. They stood toe-to-toe with PRP and traded big shot after big shot, which probably surprised many. Personally, I felt: their previously coming up short to Mason County in regionals, then finally getting over the hump and winning the region, being a bit underrated coming in because they were somewhat of an unknown quantity, and Biggs playing the role of the young, up-and-coming coach who'd finally made and earned his first big break (remember, he would later go on to coach Ashland Blazer), and their being a smaller County school coming into Rupp wide-eyed and facing a traditional Louisville power was a perfect storm to watch un-fold.

 

Though they ultimately came up short, I will remember that team because they played in one of the most memorable games I've seen, and given the stage, personified and embodied what makes basketball in Kentucky special to so many.

Off the top of my head.

 

Personally, I'd rather have Hicks in there over Euton, Richardson, Flannary, and possibly Gilbert, especially if it was considering their contributions to an overall "team" concept.

 

Maybe I'm in the minority on this one, but I was never one who was impresssed by Euton. Sure, he could trial a break and hit a 3, and had a sweet skullet, but I don't know how much value he added to those teams, especially in terms of chemistry. This is putting it nicely from someone whose had the pleasure of meeting him.

 

As another poster also mentioned, I'd think a Scott County line-up would be deep enough to include Manning, even if it meant adding him as the #6 or #7. Definitely one of the best of the last decade when it comes to Cardinal hoops.

That'd be my team if I were picking a line-up for Scott County. Past Mackey starting and Hicks being the quintessential 6th/7th man type, really the questions on who you'd have starting and who came off the bench would be a matter of style and preference.

Going to have to do some research on the individual schools before posting what I'd consider their all-decade teams, but thought it'd be fun to throw this one together since I could probably come up with most of the names off the top of my head (so there's probably some I've left out).

 

 

Lexington-Fayette Public Schools Starting 5:

 

PG - Shelvin Mack - Bryan Station - Career at Butler and time in the NBA speaks for itself in case you forgot about this Defenders standout.

 

SG - Aaron Dunaway – Henry Clay – High scoring wing who could put it in the basket in a variety of ways.

 

SF - Marcellus Barksdale - Tates Creek - Versatile player who could stuff a stat sheet.

 

PF – Aaron Boyd – Henry Clay - Athletic freak who took his talents to the gridiron for UK; a 4* receiver coming out of high school, the scary part is that basketball wasn't his best sport.

 

C - Darnell Dialls - Lafayette - Big man who led Lafayette to state and had a nice career for the Eastern Kentucky Colonels.

 

 

6 - Michael Sparks - Tates Creek - Sharpshooter whose career continued with him launching 3's for VMI's fast-paced offense.

 

 

 

Note: With Jackson Davis, Trey Grundy, Jordan Green, Christen Cunningham, etc. not having graduated yet, they are exempted from this list.

Yup...undersized 4/5 at 6'3 but dude was one of the strongest players in the state. Ended up playing football at Lville on scholarship then transferred to either Murray or Morehead.

 

Him vs Pittman down low would be an absolute war.

Cousin...Kevon RIce is Dontel's older brother.

 

Greg is playing pro ball overseas right now. Last I heard he was playing in an Iceland pro league.

 

He does but good luck figuring out his statistics. I can figure which columns are shooting % but the other stuff is foreign.
