I'd start with Vee Sanford but after that all of the names run together. I know in 08 they had a pretty good team with a couple D1 kids. Names escape me.

I thought Joey Verax was as good as anyone on their region championship team. I would probably put him in over Kane Belcher. You could almost just go with the entire 05 team.

 

I think Nesto, Nick Ruthsatz, and your two bigs are automatic. That 5th spot, in my mind, would be up for much debate. Is / was Todd better than Nick Fredrick? Luke Maile? Does Brian Lewin miss the 10 year window, because if not, he has to be on there.

 

Lewin barely misses window. 2002 grad.

Last I heard he was at the same JUCO as Jaleel Gray out in Iowa.

Duran Jefferson - PG - In the last 10 years I do not think no PG ran his team better but Hester would be right there with Duran

Austin Hill - Flat out backbone of any 5 you name

Arrez Henderson - IMO no better defender comes close in NKY. Would check ANY teams best player regardless of size lock them down.

Brandon Hatton - Gets Buckets - nuff said

Elijah Pittman - Say want you want about his attitude at times but I'll take 6'7' with arms long enough to touch the floor any day of the week.

Go back to the 10 year limit and you have to include Nate Sharp in the starting five. Sharp and Kellen Smith are the two best players in the Carr era

 

EJ Murray and Pouncy were not as good as Chris Quigley and Ryne Smith from Carr's earlier teams. Would have to include Kyle Howard in the starting 5 over Daniel O'Conner.

 

Nick Hiller didn't even play most of his senior season so it would be tough to include him in any list.

 

Jackson was a better player than Sharp.

For me, I'd take these guys from SK

 

C- Josh Elbert

F- Mike Brock

G- Langdon Barnes

G- Cody Chambers

G- Mike Hester

 

With Sampson/Swanson off the bench. Tough choice between Sampson and Barnes. Could easily flip those two.

 

I think you'd be better suited putting Brock @ center. With that said I talked to him about basketball the other day and he hasn't played in a couple of years. He's busy chasing bad guys and his toddler son these days.

Chris Quigley goes in that 3 spot. No one comes close to him.

Jackson was a better player than Sharp.

 

Not according to the stats.... Sharp had much better overall numbers than Nick did and was no doubt the better player. Numbers never lie.

 

If you don't believe me Sharp was better, ask Coach Carr. He will tell you the truth and I do know what his answer would be.

B or Chris? Both were good players but looking at my list:

 

James Bolden- Offers from X, Ohio, Purdue...arguably best player in KY for 2015

Arrez Henderson- Mr. Basketball candidate. Signed to play at D1 Louisiana Tech...could've walked on at UK.

Greg Rice- Bounced around the JUCO scene, now playing pro ball over seas in, I believe, Iceland.

RIcardo Johnson- Ohio University...regular contributor off the bench on a sweet 16 team

Elijah Pittman- Marshall- led the team in scoring last year. Name has been kicked around by NBA scouts. Will make a lot of money playing overseas, if the NBDL doesn't pan out.

 

Austin Hill- JUCO then D1 Illinois St where he was a starter.

 

Englemon was one of the better athletes to come through Holmes, but not one of the best basketball players.

 

I will say this...A game between some of the guys from the 2000-2002 teams and the above mentioned players would be one hell of a game to see.

 

Brandent Englemon, Brandon Smith, Ryan Fischer, Al Huff,Marco Hallman, Deshaun Jackson, "Stretch" Weaver are a few guys I remember and I'm sure I'm leaving off a few.
