Using one in the pen takes them out of their routine and it is silly to think there won't be another starter that misses time this year. April 29, 201313 yr It would be tough to take him out of the rotation if it were me. IMO if he's not in the rotation I would send him back down since he is so young, to get consistent work in, with an eye towards rotation next year.

And unless Leake has a complete meltdown before Cueto returns...I think it'll be Cingrani that gets sent back down. While I think Tony's got a good #1, I think he's still benefitting from being seen for the first time around. That 2nd or 3rd pitch will help keep hitters off balance should he face the Cardinals or Brewers for a 2nd or 3rd time this year.

It's either here in the rotation or back to Louisville.

He's looked great so far but odds are he'll struggle the second time that he sees teams unless he significantly improves his 2nd and 3rd pitches.

April 29, 201313 yr Lefties can still be good with located fastballs. Yes, he will need to throw more pitches with a wrinkle but he can get away with more fastballs than someone like a Leake. Leake is struggling getting guys out with anything.

April 29, 201313 yr Cingrani is gonna be a stud. He's not pitch efficient, yet effectively wild. So, he gives you consistently 5 strong, sometimes 6, is there reasonable expectation that Leake can do that consistently? Um....no.
