March 25, 201313 yr And the uproar didn't die down for quite some time over that. Will we see similar reactions over this one? Not in a million years.
March 25, 201313 yr Better than previous coaches at Minnesota. Any hire they make will be a downgrade unless they somehow talk Shaka into coming, and that is a longshot. Clem Haskins' Final Four appearance in 1997 would beg to differ...unless it was vacated.
March 25, 201313 yr Clem Haskins' Final Four appearance in 1997 would beg to differ...unless it was vacated. It was vacated. Clem Haskins paid somebody $3,000 (I think it was) to write papers for players. Side note: I used to write papers for much cheaper.
March 25, 201313 yr Tubby Smith out at Minnesota - CBSSports.com ^ According to this Tubby had 124-81 mark overall but was 16 games under .500 in conference play (46-62). He also just won his first tournament game the other night against UCLA. My guess is they go after Shaka. I have heard that the AD at UCLA wnats Shaka.
March 25, 201313 yr The folks at Minnesota must be clinically insane....this is a ridiculous decision. Enough with the Shaka stuff, everyone wants him (and Brad) and he darn sure won't go to Minnesota.
March 25, 201313 yr Gregg Doyel @GreggDoyelCBS For those saying Gophers are delusional, shooting too high: They hired their last coach away from Kentucky. Capice?
March 25, 201313 yr The Tubby Smith Plan: Honeymoon Phase (Years 1 &2): Everyone is excited about the possibilities live off the previous coach's recruiting efforts. Results Phase (Years 2-5): Continue to use previous staff's recruits and get solid results. Semi Retirement Phase (Years 6 - The end): Coast to the end. Cash out Phase: Act suprised and take the millions via buyout.
March 25, 201313 yr Gregg Doyel @GreggDoyelCBS For those saying Gophers are delusional, shooting too high: They hired their last coach away from Kentucky. Capice? In my opinion that was a unique situation and not often duplicated...
March 25, 201313 yr Thomas Beisner @thomasbeisner Iron Sheik is weighing in on Tubby Smith. This has now become a legitimate headline story. :lol2:
March 25, 201313 yr Gregg Doyel @GreggDoyelCBS For those saying Gophers are delusional, shooting too high: They hired their last coach away from Kentucky. Capice? :lol2: If they act fast, they can snag Howland and claim to have "hired him away" too!
March 25, 201313 yr Unreal. It's Minnesota for goodness sakes. They'll never be a consistent contender in the B1G. Tubby is as good as they can do. I'm in this boat...
March 25, 201313 yr Shaka is the target. Not sure why everyone is surprised. The Minnesota faithful wanted him gone last year. He's not had a winning record in the B1G and his best finish is tied for 6th once.
