Tubby to UC when Cronin leaves? Thoughts?

Where is Cronin going?

True. Dwayne Wade stopped him a game short one year and then the 2OT loss to Michigan St. stopped him another year. I'm not including the 1999 season when Michigan St. beat them one game short because those weren't 100% Tubby's players. He also has 5 Sweet Sixteen appearances with 3 different schools. How many coaches can equal that track record? I would guess that resume puts him in the top 10 of active coaches.

Why a coach who won a title at UK and had the track record above is still not liked or respected by so many in Kentucky is beyond me.

All of the above, plus he has always been a CLASS act.:idunno:

Where was that plan ever implemented?

UK - The recruit cupboard was as bare as it had been in 8 years when Tubby took over. That team UK won a title with is one of the least talented champions in the last 25 years.

You mean the team with:

14 year NBA veteran Nazr Mohammed

12 Year NBA veteran Jamal Magloire

8 Year NBA veteran Scottie Padgett

6 year NBA vet Michael Bradley

Not to mention some pretty good college players in Jeff Shepherd, Wayne Turner, and Allen Edwards.

Minnesota - Are you saying there was a boat load of talent waiting for him there? The previous year Minnesota went 9-22 and 3-13 in the Big 10. Two years before they were 16-15 and 5-11. Yep, that looks like a talented crew waiting for Tubby.

Tubby won 20 games four of his 5 seasons as coach. In the 9 seasons prior to Tubby, Minnesota had one 20 win season.

Tubby won 20 games his first three seasons. No other coach in Minnesota history has won 20 games 3 seasons in a row.

Recruiting? - He brought in several highly ranked recruiting classes while at Minnesota.

Tubby is a great human being and a very good X's and O's guy, and given equal talent can coach with the best of them. However he always seems to have less talent than others. If you can't bring in the best to Kentucky you can't bring in the best. He couldn't do it here, and he hasn't done it there. Plain and simple the best of the best players don't want to play that style of ball. So know matter how good of a coach anyone may think he is. It always seems like he is behind the eight ball talentwise.

The thing I don't understand is the people who love Tubby, but hate Rick.

He basically quit on the job at UK and took millions on his way out the door. Plus, he flat out refused to address his horrific staff. You know you suck when people are willing to pay you millions to leave.

Some people are just sad sad individuals. Why they continue to harbor ill-will against a guy who was nothing but a class act and has been gone for 6 years is beyond me.

People act like that team was dripping with talent.

His 1998 National Championship is unique in modern times, as being along with 1985 Villanova the 2nd team in over twenty years to win without a First Team All American or future NBA Lottery Pick.

May not have been dripping with it, but it was definitely not bereft of talent like so many people want to pretend.

No hard feeling but facts are facts. He Went to sleep at the wheel at UK.

Way more people believe that any coach could have won with that team, how silly is that? Check UNC's roster that season.

It was certainly more talented than the roster he left BCG.

Tubby out coached Duke and Coach K in Tampa in 1998. When Duke was out of time outs in the last 6 minutes Tubby just let his well prepared team out play Duke by not using his time outs. Masterful coaching move by not over coaching. I was in the front row and could not believe how great that game was.

Unfortunately, "class", fell out of the job requirement/criteria somewhere along the way.

Are you saying Cal doesn't have any class?
