January 14, 201313 yr Back Squats this morning. Going to skip crossfit this afternoon, was putting in doors yesterday and cut the crap out of my hand.
January 14, 201313 yr I just liked it up. Looks interesting. I like how it requires just the 3 days a week of running. Gives you options for the other days if you are injury prone. I am not a distance guru, but I looked up a bunch w/ my wife when she started getting into it. Most of the running sites will have you do a long run and two shorter runs during the week. In between, you'll do some sort of strength training. If people on here are serious about 2013, please start learning everything that you can about strength training (assuming that you've checked w/ doctors already) . Learn what compound lifts are, what they do, and how they help your body. If you can, make them the meet of your strength training over machines. You won't get bulky, unless you eat to get bulky. Compound lifts burn more calories per work exerted then running does, and helps in every facet of your life where you must move physically. Read, read, and read. January 14, 201313 yr Down 8 pounds in week 1. That is awesome. I wish I could hit those kind of numbers
January 14, 201313 yr Nothing beats getting up at 4:45 and making the walk up the gym around 5:10 in 20 degree weather then jumping in the swimming pool. Actually, getting in the pool after being cold is not too bad because jumping in the cool water you are actually warming up. We did a sprint workout this morning, main sprint set being 3 x 200 on the 3:45. 2150 total this morning. We are supposed to be incorporating some kickboxing tonight in to my circuit training class that I do on Monday nights. Our instructor does a great job. The kid cloves come off tomorrow morning at 5:30 spin class since I am teaching.
January 14, 201313 yr ...and as I say that, pick one thing and stick with it. Strength Training is also a play to get "paralysis by analysis." Every site will have tons of different programs that contradict each other. As a beginner, look into things like Starting Strength and go with it.
January 14, 201313 yr Another thing, at least once a week you need to devote some time to advanced stretching or yoga. While you are watching a program on television, stretch during the duration of the show. You can only go so far without proper flexibility.
January 14, 201313 yr Author Finished Day 5 of 30 Day Shred. I really like the program and actually look forward to doing it each day. Did not get out to run today. Will start woking on the 30 min. running base on Wednesday, to lay down the foundation for the Rookie-Mini training program. How was your Monday fitness?

I especially love the part about lifting not making you bulky. 6 years ago I reached my highest weight ever of 208. I got into a weight loss contest and dropped down to 165. The problem is I did it wrong and lost tons of muscle along with the fat. After the contest I started lifting and could barely bench 135. 6 years later I've only increased my weight by 10 pounds but I'm as strong as I've ever been. My max bench is 250 and my squat is 270. While not monster numbers it's huge gains considering where I started and the mistakes I've made along the way. i'm most proud with my squat simply because it's by far my weakest lift and I have legs Colonel Sanders would be proud to get his hands on. Also it's a lift I've never done until 2 years ago. Let me add that anyone that has never lifted please do yourself a favor and read Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe.

I fixed that for you. mobilitywod.com is a great site to check out. Kelly posts different stretches everyday to work on.
January 15, 201313 yr I'm going to start C25K tomorrow. Anyone ever completed it ? Nope but I will about a week and a half before you do. Stretch your calves/shins

January 15, 201313 yr Ran about four miles this morning. I would much rather run in hot weather. Breathing in cold air the whole way is rough on me.
