January 9, 201313 yr There are a ton of different things going on in here. If you are just working out for fun, have at it. I just find it easier to continue past February if I am working towards something. Make goals, people, read about how to get there, and work all the way through 2013 to achieve them.

Before I started finding competitions to do I was a typical New Year's Resolution guy in the gym (i.e. gone by end of February). I started slow with just running but as I learn more I find more I want to do. Also, while I don't like to do everything with groups I have found that joining a group/class can be very fun and helps tremendously with accountability.
January 9, 201313 yr In the past I have done a spinning class once a week. I thought they were a joke before I actually did the class. It was much much harder than I expected. Pretty solid workout.

Got to have them. We are rookies. We are motivated. But we are also trying to figure out what works for us so that we can stick to it. Some of us have not done a push up in years and just started doing them daily on Jan 1. What you will find here on this mismatch and misdirected thread is support and positives for everyone no matter your fitness level.
January 9, 201313 yr My goal is to lose about 30 pounds and just become a more physically fit person. My problem is just sticking with it.
January 9, 201313 yr I am going to throw something out there from my experience. When I step up my activity level, it takes a few weeks before I start to notice the positive difference. When I slack off or eat poorly, it takes a few weeks before I notice the negative difference. And as I have gotten older, the lag is more pronounced. My point is to be persistent and patient.

My point is that I think it is awesome that people are "interested" in getting fit. Now it is time to get "passionate." There are a ton of resources with plans to follow, like Couch to 5K blogs and things like that. I just hope that everyone has a game plan to get to their goals. I'm no fitness expert, just want everyone to stay motivated throughout the year. I'm sick of seeing the same people do our "Biggest Loser" contest every year here at work. They get onto the scale and live or die with the numbers. They don't realized that their pants are fitting better. Weight loss competitions are good and all, but you should do that once and change the way you live forever.

Did you get "Upper Body Weight Lifting" with your Insanity too? If so, swap that in once in awhile when you get bored with some of the other workouts. I'll sub it in once and sometimes twice a week. It is a challenge!
January 9, 201313 yr I went to my doctor for my 3 week post-surgery appointment. I am still at least 3 weeks away before I will be cleared to get back in the gym, but I can start a more active walking regime and she approved the diet that i was on. I'm a little bummed about waiting for to get back to really working out, but I guess you just can't push recovery from surgery! I'm sure that I'll be excited when the day comes.
