December 5, 201213 yr Who decides this stuff? This is about as goofy as the name Cincy came up with for an NFL team back in the sixties when everybody was ga-ga over the white Bengal tigers. Sorry, never have liked that name.
December 5, 201213 yr That is horrible. Pelicans? Really? At least Jordan may be able to get the Hornets name and colors back to Charlotte.

Sorry, never have liked that name. Ha speaking of that I wouldn't have minded the Bengals going with the white Bengal Tigers look. White black, and light blue colors just to complete change the look. That will never happen, especially since that is basically the colors of the Carolina Panthers. Would have been a fun change IMO though haha.
December 5, 201213 yr I understand the pelican is the state bird but it's a terrible nickname for a major league franchise.
December 5, 201213 yr I haven't seen one tweet or post on the name being a good one. Everyone is laughing. Who decided on pelicans? Seriously...that's embarrassing.
December 5, 201213 yr I've a t-shirt from the minor league team the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. I may be in the minority but I don't think it's too bad of a name. Of course when I hear Hornets, I think Charlotte instead of New Orleans. I'd say that is why they are changing.
December 5, 201213 yr Pelicans?? Are you serious?? I want to be a fan because of AD and Miller, but this is too much to overcome. Sounds like a hockey team to me.
December 5, 201213 yr The only name that would've been worse than this would be Hurricanes. Heck, the Unibrows would be better.
December 5, 201213 yr The should have demanded that the Jazz hand over their name. Do they even allow music in Salt Lake City?
December 5, 201213 yr I'm not saying I think it's great...or a name that I'd have gone with, but let's look at some other NBA team names that don't necessarily have a "striking fear into the hearts of opponents" kind of name: Denver Nuggets - What's so fearsome about a nugget? Los Angeles Clippers - Is a sailboat that intimidating? Los Angeles Lakers - Oooooh....I'm shaking in my boots....a "laker". Orlando Magic - Really? Utah Jazz - Jazz...that's intimidating, reallllllllly intimidating. New York Knicks - Knickerbockers aren't exactly fearsome either. I say take it easy on them. At least the name kind of makes sense (unlike the LA Lakers and Utah Jazz.)
December 5, 201213 yr Lakers name is from when the team was in Minneapolis, Minnesota ( Land of a thousand lakes). The name stayed with the franchise when it was moved.
