December 5, 201213 yr Lakers name is from when the team was in Minneapolis, Minnesota ( Land of a thousand lakes). The name stayed with the franchise when it was moved. True...and same scenario with the Jazz...but that doesn't make it any more intimidating than the Pelicans. If anything, I'd argue that the Pelicans as a mascot is better because it at least makes sense to the team's location.
