With your situation in mind, let's create a hypothetical. You are in the midst of contract negotiations with Corning. If the current contract expires in a month and you don't sign a new deal, then your union members' wages roll back to their 2008 wages. You say, "I'll be at the beach for three weeks with a full supply of Yuengling, call me if you need me". Past Union presidents have taken vacations, you work hard for yours, you've got a cell phone. How would your constituency respond?

That's not a realistic hypothetical. Our contract negotiation dates are set over 6 months in advance notice and I can tell you right now our next contract negotiations will be in 2014 in mid February. They can't just pop up and renegotiate the contract anytime they want. They have to wait until February 2014.

But, I'll play along. Give me access to my own plane, excuse me, my own jet, so I can fly anywhere in the world at the snap of my fingers and my family and I will be out. Believe that. I'm 100% certain President Obama will be working while his family enjoys their vacation.

And life is still good for me and mine. If the country is going down the drain me and mine have yet to feel those effects. Enjoy your fake vacation, President Obama.

My guess is he will not be in Hawaii if the negotiations are ongoing.

DING DING DING we have a winner. The sky is falling and it's Obama's fault crowd never quits. If there is no deal and the talks are in progress, he will be in on the talks.

I watched the special about Air Force 1. I think it costs about $1 million for the president to cross the street. As long as he takes his cell and PC like the rest of us, I have no beef.

Of course...as I think about it, I have worked with people in my past that I considered paying to stay home. :D

Always a fan of topical humor.

If you don't laugh about some of this you will cry. So we need to keep it lively.

I know my situation pales in comparison but even as union president I am on call 24 hours a day. If little old PP92 is on call for 24 hours a day for 141 bucks a month(after taxes) for 242 people then I know that President Obama is on call 36 hours a day for hundreds of millions of people. I can't wait to be sitting on the beach sunbathing(yes, I sunbathe with the best of them) with 4 Yuenglings in me at noon and get the phone call about someone who wasn't given the correct opportunity to work overtime. :D:irked::ohbrother::madman::lol::cool:

Try ministry. If i had a less wonderful wife I'd be divorced by now.

I was in KY 4 Christmas' ago. We had plans to celebrate our Anniversary (New Years Eve). Not just anyone but our 20th. We were going to a blowout in Lexington with the Bertrams like we used to do. A lady dies in our church back in VA. I asked the family if they could postpone the funeral to the 2nd. (This was the 29th) They said no.

Luckily the hotel understood and just allowed us to cancel but on my 20th Wedding Anniversary as was back in VA doing a funeral.

If that wasn't enough, a couple of older people in my church complained that I was away. When I explained I had planned everything over the phone and came home early but no one went without ministry they said: "Oh, we didn't know."

Why should you I told them. It wasn't your family. Geez.

How much of that $4m is security cost and transportation?

Was listening to Mark Levin last night, security and transportation were about 3 mil.

I read it costs about $180k per flight hour.

Here's what I don't know.

What are the components of that figure?

If there is no flight is the cost zero? Or does that cost include the salary and benefits for the personnel involved? If it's the latter then those are not incremental costs. Does anyone know?

Only added charges I would see I for extra security detail that would not be in place if he was in DC. Yes those SSAs would be getting paid anyway but many may be assigned to other jobs, many will be working overtime which would be above regular pay. OT for flight crew and others would also be above what it caost to just sit home.

FWIW I don't care that he is taking a vacation, 3 weeks may bit a bit much, but it is what it is.

Much bigger issues than the President's vacation.

From April 2012:

A direct comparison places Obama squarely on middle ground of presidential vacation days used. Of the past five presidents, during their first year in office, only two, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton took less time off than Obama. Ronald Reagan, George HW Bush and his son all spent much more time away from the White House than the current occupant. Obama’s retreat to Martha’s Vinyard in August 2011 sparked a particularly high number of criticisms, however at that point in his presidency he had only taken a total of 61 days off. Compared to that same time in office Ronald Reagan had spent 112 days on vacation and George W Bush had been away for a total of 180 days. Bill Clinton, at 28 days, had the least time off of recent presidents. Reagan held the total vacation day record of 436 until the younger Bush left office with a grand total of 977 days away from Washington, representing 1/3 of his presidency.

I guess there is only so much of Hillary in a bikini than even Bill could take:D

It's a Christmas holiday. Who deserves to enjoy it more than our Lord and Savior?

Hmmm, someone had to do YOUR job? Perhaps YOU also took a vacation? How much did that cost us? :)
