while the country is slipping over the cliff.

Love to hear everyones thoughts on this one.

He is spending more of our tax payers money on one vacation than less than 1% of the country make in a year.

How much of that $4m is security cost and transportation?

Unless he is going to disappear for 3 weeks I don't care. I'd have a better 3 week vacation for 10 bucks than he will for 3 weeks 4 million. Does he ever truly get a vacation?

WH says the vacation plans are not final yet.

Give us a cost breakdown before we make a decision as to how much extra it is costing us.

Does it include the salaries of the Secret Service? Salaries of personnel such as the pilot?

Who said it was $4M besides the newspaper in Hawaii?

Does the breakdown matter? It's your money he is spending on a vacation at a time when the country is in a financial crisis and he is on vacation for 3 weeks. We need leadership and answers right now. Like to know how many American citizens are working this Christmas just to put food on the table or to keep their job. Bet the secret service would love to spend Christmas with thier family.

I think I recall in one of Obamas campaign speeches that he mentioned that everyone was going to have to sacrifice and maybe it meant taking a smaller vacation that year. When was the last time you took a 4 million dollar vacation?

Why should he go on vacation? If all is fair, and an equal playing field like Obama wants it, then why is he taking a 3 week Hawian vacation. I'm sure there are little to no "middle class" Americans that will be doing that for Christmas.

It matters as far as being able to make an informed decision as to incremental cost.

If the costs include salaries of 100s of personnel then that's NOT incremental cost. Those people are getting paid whether they're going to Hawaii or hanging in SE DC.

There will always be people who are hurting financially. Are you saying that precludes a POTUS from taking a vacation?

Secret Service knew what the job entailed before they got into it. I don't feel sorry for them.

Just like when Pres Bush unfairly took criticism for vacations Pres Obama does as well.

Also heard today that the Royal Family cost the British $53 million/year. The Obama's cost to the American taxpayer is in the Billions/year.

Really? He needs a three week vacation? He is the president. He needs to start acting like one. This country is going down the drain and he is going on vacation for 3 weeks. Do you get to go on vacation when everything hits the fan? No. When was the last time you got to go on a three week vacation?

Yes he has security, but if he doesn't go , you don't have that kind of cost. You do realize that more has been spent on this president than anyother?

Unless the POTUS is disconnecting his phone and not working on issues then I don't really care how long he is out of the White House. The POTUS is NEVER on a true vacation.

Bush took 1,020 vacation days! 180 at his ranch. When Obama gets close to these numbers, call me for reasonable argument. And as Clyde states, a president isn't really ever on vacation.

You do realize that more has been spent on this president than anyother? [/size]

That doesn't appear to be correct.

From April 2012:

A direct comparison places Obama squarely on middle ground of presidential vacation days used. Of the past five presidents, during their first year in office, only two, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton took less time off than Obama. Ronald Reagan, George HW Bush and his son all spent much more time away from the White House than the current occupant. Obama’s retreat to Martha’s Vinyard in August 2011 sparked a particularly high number of criticisms, however at that point in his presidency he had only taken a total of 61 days off. Compared to that same time in office Ronald Reagan had spent 112 days on vacation and George W Bush had been away for a total of 180 days. Bill Clinton, at 28 days, had the least time off of recent presidents. Reagan held the total vacation day record of 436 until the younger Bush left office with a grand total of 977 days away from Washington, representing 1/3 of his presidency.

Reagan took a 25-day vacation when the UE was 9.5%.

Was I supposed to be mad then? Or should I have realized just because he wasn't sleeping at 1600 didn't mean he wasn't working?

President Reagan had an "R" beside his name.
