UK has to understand what it is and where it is at. Clearly, they have some promising young talent in certain spots, but that really isn't an out for Joker, because the whole HCIW is supposed to pick up on the continuity piece of moving from one head coach to the another.

UK physically is not going to get the type of personnel to be able to run the ball consistently to win in the SEC, so it is going to need someone with a controlled passing game to counter that.

I think they need an energetic coach as well. I really like Sonny Dykes and if not him I would look at Mark Hudspeth from LA-Lafayette. Who knows but I don't have the greatest of confidence in Mitch Barnhart to make this hire.

Wait a minute this can't be true! I know I was told on here by the UL faithful how much he hated UK and how there was NO WAY at all he would be interested in the UK job.

I think Petrino coming out saying he's interested has put Mitch in a bind. I think he wanted to hire someone else and play it off like Petrino wasn't interested. Now he at least has to take a look or the fan base will be all over him. Personal issues or not, Petrino is that home run UK wants.

Plus it may raise his value on the market in negotiations with another team if suddenly there is another option for him. Not convinced he is whole heartedly interested in UK, thinking this is may be a ploy to raise his appeal.

To me there's different levels based on what Barnhart wants to do:

Be one of the top programs in the Nation= Petrino (this is the highest risk highest reward). Personally I have never thought much of him as a man but he's one of the top handfull of football coaches in America! They will be an elite program if he comes and keeps his nose clean. I think he knows that this might be his last shot with a big program. I would be happy if they rolled the dice on him.

Conservative: Fulmer or Cutcliff. Safe coaches. Both have had success. Both have a good reputation. Personally I don't see either making KY an elite program. I'd put Taggert in this group too. It would be hard to kill them if they hire him but it's not much committment I don't think to be elite. I could see him winning some but wouldn't be crazy about the hire.

Mumme style ball: Dykes would be an interesting hire. I don't know what he would do here but I think he would score points much like Mumme. Brown seems too young and inexperienced to me right now for this job. Kingsburry is young and inexperienced too but his reputation seems that he might be the best young offensive coach out there.

Top assistant: Kirby Smart. This one is hard to call. I sit down and watch Bama the last couple of years because they flat out get after you! I believe in him there. I just think it's hard not to look at the talent they pull there and I don't see them pulling that at UK.

There is ZERO chance Kirby Smart even interviews IMO. Why would he?

I think Petrino is just using Kentucky to get a better job.

I find it interesting that the day after it becomes public that Petrino is interested in UK, Auburn begins the process of possibly showing Chzik the door.

 

I don't think Barnhart will hire Petrino. Two jackasses in one decade is enough for Mitch.

 

I still think Mike Bellotti is the fall back choice if Mitch doesn't get options A, B, or C

Barnhart should of been fired when he hired BCG. Cal saved his job. Sad.
