My wife witnessed attack attempt on young jogger at Sawyer Point Park on Cincinnati R

Featured Replies

On Thursday morning my wife was jogging through Sawyer Point around 11am behind the Amphitheater and witnessed an African American male in his early 30's come out of the woods and go after a young girl who was jogging 30 yards ahead of her.

The girl took off right away and my wife yelled at the guy and that is when he stopped and started toward her. Thankfully a maintenance worker was right there and came out from the back of the Amphitheater asking if there was a problem. He immediately radio'd security and the man took off. My wife said she was ready to fight for her life, the guy was shirtless and pretty muscular. She also said he grabbed a gym bag as he took off, lord knows what was in that bag.

Sawyer Point is a great park along the River but everyone should be aware that there are crackheads, mentally Ill criminals out there and they need to be vigilant. If you are in town visiting or just like to go down there on a daily basis make sure you are aware of your surroundings and try not to be alone.

Saw this on WLWT. A scary situation.

Always have to be aware of where you are and who else might be around, better to be a bit over cautious than to regret it later. Glad Mrs.Q is ok.

^Glad Mrs. Q was there to react and cause a scene on behalf of the other jogger. Brave lady!

She done good! What a shame a person can't be safe even in a public place. Wacko's everywhere!!!!!

Glad your wife and the other female runner are ok. The only advice I would give is always try to have a partner. This crap hasn't changed in 35 years.

Glad she is ok, I agree always have a walking or jogging partner. Earlier this summer two sisters in the next county went out to jog, but one felt ill and turned back. She was on the side of the main road in the town and was grabbed, pulled into the woods, robbed and murdered. Women ALWAYS need a buddy when out like this.

Excellent work Ms. Q.

I jog the bridges at lunch. Between the Clay Wage Bailey and the Purple People Bridge

there are frequently some pretty sketchy guys loitering around.

Would love to see more of a police presence on the Cincy side.

I never let my daughter jog with earbuds. I want her completely aware of her surroundings at all times, so she will at least have a chance to react like Mrs. Q.

I am glad your wife is ok. Cincinnati is trying, and getting better, but is still not safe for a woman alone IMO. Across the river, Newport is also improving, but Covington is getting worse.

I agree with Flotsam, I run/walk down there four or five a week in the evening, there are some very sketchy guys down there for sure. The place to be real careful is if you access the Purple People Bridge via the steps at Sawyer Point at the very top before you hit the bridge. I always make sure I have a "friend" with me. Other than that the place seem fairly safe, minus behind the pavillion.

I walk down there a couple of times a week and on occasion I see some pretty rough looking dudes. In particular, two white dudes, 40ish, working together, that have that we have been in prison look.

I am not a very easy target (but still aware) but like everyone else said any female should always have a partner and that is the exception rather than the rule.

Finally, I think the Cincy Police Department does a poor job of patrolling that area unless there is an event then it is overwhelming. The coppers I see down there are usually way off to the side talking to pretty ladies. I hate to throw that stone but it is true.

You packin' when you walk?

On occasion I will carry a tactical knife but never a gun. I haven't carried a concealed gun in ten years or more even though I have the ability to do so.

I know this sounds silly, but if I have to be that hyper-vigilant while I am exercising I will find another place to go.
