August 28, 201214 yr Pretty much Dusty sucks and it's easy to manage a good team without screwing it up. I don't read him very much typically but he had a few good points. The Moaning Whine, 8/27 | Paul Daugherty Dusty does well with front-running teams that don’t require a lot of tweaking. Such as this one. This has been a practically perfect team for him to manage. Terminator closer, so he doesnt have to worry about the 9th inning. Five healthy starters, so he doesnt have to juggle his rotation and worry excessively about his ‘pen wearing down. Until lately, best ‘pen in the league, which makes any manager look smart… Except Votto and Rolen, healthy Everyday Eight. Nice surprises from Ludwick, Frazier, Cozart. No not-nice surprises, except possibly Leake. In other words, it has been a relatively good year to put it on cruise control and manage by The Book. I hate Doc but I couldn't agree more with him on anything.

August 28, 201214 yr A lot of people were bashing Dusty about how he used Marshall versus the Cardinals yesterday. That move helped win this game tonight. Instead of using Broxton in that game, he saved him for tonight and it paid off with a fresh Broxton looking near his best in a Reds uniform. Sometimes you manage games to win the next two or three instead of wearing down your team to win every one of them.

I could buy your argument if they weren't playing the 2nd place team who is chasing them, and knowing that it definitely allows that team to gain a game if they lost. Like tonight the Reds won, but didn't gain a game on the Cardinals by winning. Every game is important but yesterday did actually mean a little bit more when it comes to deciding what to do.

This quote right here tells me he doesn't have a clue: "Dusty does well with front-running teams that don’t require a lot of tweaking." Yeah, no tweaking was necessary this year. I mean, you only lost the best 1st baseman in all of baseball (which he ended up moving a rookie into his spot who is now up for ROY because of it) and one of your better guys out of the bullpen. Not to mention the short stints of no Rolen and Phillips. He's right though, no tweaking.
