August 28, 201214 yr Anyone read Doc's article today? Haven't read Doc in a long time, what'd he say?
August 28, 201214 yr Author Haven't read Doc in a long time, what'd he say? Pretty much Dusty sucks and it's easy to manage a good team without screwing it up. I don't read him very much typically but he had a few good points. The Moaning Whine, 8/27 | Paul Daugherty Dusty does well with front-running teams that don’t require a lot of tweaking. Such as this one. This has been a practically perfect team for him to manage. Terminator closer, so he doesnt have to worry about the 9th inning. Five healthy starters, so he doesnt have to juggle his rotation and worry excessively about his ‘pen wearing down. Until lately, best ‘pen in the league, which makes any manager look smart… Except Votto and Rolen, healthy Everyday Eight. Nice surprises from Ludwick, Frazier, Cozart. No not-nice surprises, except possibly Leake. In other words, it has been a relatively good year to put it on cruise control and manage by The Book.

The Moaning Whine, 8/27 | Paul Daugherty When people ask me what really makes a good manager, I say two words: good players. . . . All that strategizing stuff is overrated. Games are won or lost by how well the players play, not how the manager manages. -Yogi Berra
August 28, 201214 yr It sounds more & more like Masset is out for the year, so I like the Broxton trade. I'm comfortable with Marshall, Broxton & Chapman in the pen.
August 28, 201214 yr So you don't have a problem with Tony LaRussa using 103 lineups but you have a problem with Dusty Baker using 106? Not surprised... When people ask me what really makes a good manager, I say two words: good players. . . . All that strategizing stuff is overrated. Games are won or lost by how well the players play, not how the manager manages. -Yogi Berra Yogi Berra was about as smart as a box of rocks. He also said ""Ninety percent of this game is half mental."
August 28, 201214 yr Everybody who wanted Thom to be the one to dive in, raise your hand. I'd have rather seen the chick dive in and lose the top of her bikini.
August 28, 201214 yr Author Don't blame me for Valdez. Notice the trend with Dusty to play the aging over the hill veteran who was never that good to start with.....Corey Patterson, Willie Taveras, Miquel Cairo, Valdez. :isurrender: Reds are 22-9 when Valdez starts.
