Here is what happened, and yes I was there and saw it. The LB'r missed an open field tackle on #23 for HHS, nobody would have made that tackle, and I mean nobody. The kid from Highlands made a juke move around the 20 yard line, cut it back and ran in for a TD. The RB from Highlands makes everybody miss tackles, he is great. I'm sure that this kid from SC, wasn't the only SC player that missed a tackle, the score would indicate that as well. I think the coach was frustrated and took it out on one player,and lost his cool.

First of all, get over hearing your sons name announced over the speaker system. It means nothing. The kids don't hear it. The game is not about the parents or grandparents. I can say this because I'm a parent of offensive linemen that never got their names mentioned. And both were All State Linemen.

 

Actually never really listen to announcers. Personnally they annoy me. Really , if you watch the game and really pay attention to what is going on, you don't hear anything that is going on around you.

 

 

Maybe in the bubble you live in, but you're not the only one watching the games plus I'm sure parents would love to hear their child's name announced after a great play. Also, the game may not be about parents but it sure in the heck is funded by parents as well as all those supporting the Birds. Pony up some booster funds and get a sound system that represents....It's embarrassing.

Glad you asked. When I was in that situation I spoke with my son first who told me he could take it and that when they weren't in the heat of the moment they both were allowed to speak to one another calmly and rationally and they moved on. Did he like getting yelled at? Of course not. Did he make the same mistake twice and learn from it? Yes. No damage done. Still love that coach as we speak. End of story.

Kind of silly, isn't it. The silliest of all is someone telling Henry she needs to pony up. There are very, very, very few folks who have ponied up more for Highlands football than Henry and her family. And most of those folks complaining haven't contributed a nickle, other than buying a game ticket, to the football program. Oh the funny irony of it all.

 

Personally I could care less about the PA system. I didn't need to hear my sons' names be called when they made a big play. I was happy for them as it was. That was enough for me. But to each their own I guess.

 

Birds played well. We seemed much more aggressive on defense. That might have had some to do with the type of O SC ran. We did tackle better. No doubt we still have a lot of work to do before we play CovCath.

 

Offensively, we ran the ball well. We've got to get better passing the ball and become better balanced.

 

All in all, I was pleased with what I saw Friday night. The bye this week will allow the coaches a lot of time to work with the kids on what the coaches have seen the last 3 weeks. We have to use the next two games to fine tune our execution so that when we play CovCath, things are working smoothly. Looking forward to the trip to Western and then hosting Mason Co. Lots of respect for David Buchanon and his Mason County Royals.

I guess I got so use to it being bad that I don't even think about it. I think if Whackem'n' Stackem purchased a new PA system Dale might name it after him. Whackem could become part of Highlands Folklore.
