Inside the 16th Region Rankings - Week 2

1.West Carter (5-0):

The Comets are off to a hot start to the season, winning their first 5 straight games. Not only have they won those games but 4 of their 5 games have been double digit wins. Comets also won the EKC Tournament where they defeated Morgan County 68-50, Rowan County 80-72, Russell 73-52.

 

The Comets have two tough games this week; 12/13 @ #2 Boyd County, 12/16 vs. Sheldon Clark (@ Rowan)

 

2.Boyd County (4-0):

The Lions have started the season off great, 4-0. 3 of their 4 wins have been by 15+ points. Senior guard Hunter Kenser continues to led the Lions, averaging 20 points a game and 11 boards a game.

 

The Lions will be home on Tuesday hosting #1 West Carter. 16-20 the Lions will be @ Bishop Gorman NV participating in the Tarkanian Classic.

 

3.Elliott County (3-0):

Much like the first two teams listed, the Lions have ripped through the opponents, despite just played 3 games this season, the Lions have won those 3 games by 15+ points each.

 

The Lions will be participating in the Hi-Tech Signs/Graphix Holiday Classic @ Prestonsburg Dec. 16-20.

 

4.Greenup County (3-2):

The Musketeers had their 3 game win streak snapped when they suffered a 73-66 loss to #2 Boyd County. The Musketeers still should be one of the teams to beat in the 16th region tournament, when it comes post season.

 

Greenup County will travel to Ashland Blazer on Tuesday, then head over to Rowan County to face East Jessamine in the KY Bank Challenge.

 

5.Rowan County (2-3):

Despite being 2-3 the Vikings are still one of the better teams in the 16th, as they are every year. 3 of their games have came within the region, putting them at 2-1 against region opponents this season.

 

Rowan County travels to Menifee County on Wednesday before coming home to host the KY Bank Challenge where they will face Cov Holy Cross on the 16th and Sheldon Clark on the 17th.

 

 

6.Russell (3-3):

The Red Devils have played some good basketball to start the season off, in fact, the start of this season has been the best starts that the Red Devils have seen in quite some time. The Red Devils may not be blowing people out like a lot of teams have been, but, hey, their still winning games.

 

Russell will look to add more wins to the W Column this week when they travel to Morgan County on Tuesday and host Raceland on Thursday.

 

7.Bath County (3-3):

Coach Williams got off to a rough start, falling 1-2 in their first 3 games, but have since, turned things around, winning 2 of their last 3 games. Bath County’s all 3 wins have came in the region, where they currently stand at 3-1.

 

12/13 the Wildcats will travel to Fairview to face the Eagles. 12/16 vs. East Jessamine and 12/17 vs. Augusta (both at Rowan County).

 

8.East Carter (2-3):

East Carter started the season off, losing both opening games, by double digits but have bounced back and won 2 of their last 3 games. Senior guard Cameron Sparks and senior Forward Cameron Bailey, continue to led the way for the Raiders, both averaging double digit scoring. Bailey (11.5 PPG) Sparks (14.8 PPG)

 

The Raiders will see the road all this week, traveling to Lewis County on Tuesday, Mason County on Friday and playing Jackson County in the KY Bank Challenge at Rowan County on Saturday.

 

9.Menifee County (2-2):

The last time that the Wildcats had won their first two games of the season was the 2009/10 season when they won their first 6 games on their way to a 15-7 record, one of the best in their history. This season, they currently stand at 2-2.

 

The Wildcats host Fleming County on Monday, Rowan County on Wednesday and will play Madison Southern in the KY Bank Challenge @ Rowan County on Friday.

 

10.Ashland Blazer (1-3):

The Tomcats won their first game of the season, defeating Lewis County 69-55 but have since fallen off the face of the earth, losing 3 straight games, which 2 of those losses were by double digits.

 

Ashland will look to rebound and start putting wins back in the W column this week when they host Greenup County on Tuesday and then play Lou Holy Cross at Rowan County on Saturday.

 

11.Morgan County (1-5):

Past two seasons the Cougars have been one of the better teams in the region, not so much this year, only winning 1 out of their first 6 games.

 

12.Lewis County (1-4):

The Lions started the season off 1-1, since their first and only win, they have dropped 3 straight, 2 of the 3 losses have came at home.

 

13.Fairview (1-4):

The Eagles only win came against #9 Menifee County 62-45.

 

14.Raceland (1-4):

The Rams defeated Dayton 58-54 this past Saturday to snap their 4 game losing streak.

 

15.Fleming County (0-4):

The Panther woes continue, as the Panthers are still looking for win #1.

 

16.Rose Hill Christian (3-4):

The Royals have defeated Burgin, Riverside Christian and Brown for their only wins on the season, Thus far.
