  1. Is the game in Breathitt or Lex? If in the mountains, there will be a slim chance for LCA unless Breathitt turns the ball over (which doesn't happen often). Watch for frustrations by LCA as the Bobcat O-line has a lovefest with the LCA "D". They'll hug them all night and the striped shirt guys will think they are just being friendly. I've seen many games and scrimmages there and it is a tough place to get a win if your an outsider.:irked: Good luck to both teams and it should be a good game to watch.
  2. Cole is the best receiver in the state IMO any class. I know that is a strong statement but the kid had 4 touches in the first half (I believe first 3rd of the game) and 4 touchdowns last week, then sat out against a weak team. He probably would have had 6 or 7 if not. I've seen him take the short pass and turn it into a huge gain or touchdown. Great routes, great hands and is dangerous when he gets the ball. He could pad his stats more if they throw to him even more. He now has the all-time record in KY for TDs in a season and in a career, as well as single season yardage. He probably would have the most receptions but he turns too many catches into touchdowns. His only drawback at the next level will be his size and potential durability in running crossing routes.
  3. The only way the 3 were to win is by forfeit, that is a little humor there GCHS. I just thought that they should get a vote because they work hard as well and deserve some confidence building.
  4. 7- Louisville Central 5- Breathitt 3- Raceland 2- Pikeville 1- Knox Cenral TB Lou Central
  5. 7- Madison Central 5- Danville 3- Breathitt 2- Highlands 1- Harrison TB Madison Central
  6. Let's go home and hug our kids tonight and tell them how much they mean to us, then say a prayer for those at Tilghman.
  7. Pick 3 in Pulaski County? 1) Pulaski vs. Wayne- How much & who? 2) Southwestern vs. Central Hardin? (same) 3) Somerset vs. Russell County? (same) Will SW get back on track thsi week and will SHS & PC roll again?
  8. Butler, Conner & N. Laurel my picks.:sleep::sleep: WAKE ME UP, WAKE ME UP.... what a dream?
  9. Pulaski County 20th in 5A? You've got to be kidding me. Does reputation have 50% to do with the ratings? Should be a top 10 at this point. Is Cantrell smoking some of that football grass?
  10. Let's all get along. PC has done what they've had to do to get it done this year. Muse & company are special this year and probably will be for the next 2. No disrespect for previous posters but we have some quality football going on now in all of Pulaski County. SW is down but that's not unexpected given the quality of last year's seniors. SHS will make a good run and next year they may be sitting in a tougher spot with a younger inexperienced team. It all goes in cycles and it would be nice if we all were great year in and out but that's usually not a reality. PC should handle Wayne but the true test will be Lincoln. I worry about that game because I know that LC will be after Muse in a big way. Heads up Chris. As for PC being hands down the best in the county, I think they are slightly better than Somerset (but I wouldn't want to play them today) and better than SW across the board. Friday night showed that and will be the case if they see each other in a month. SW is a good program that will figure out the areas of improvement needed but that may not show until next season. It will though eventually. SW lacks confidence whereas PC is loaded with it and it comes out on the field.
  11. They can't look in the mirror Jumper fans. With all of the hype, "tradition", money, etc. it is hard for them to believe that they're just not that good. SW fans and PC fans should be happy for the Jumpers when they don't play them directly. I still say that jealousy plays a big part in the threads they post. SW should be happy that they didn't have to play the Jumpers this year, it would be ugly. Let's hope that SW wins out and finishes strong as well as PC & Somerset. We're neighbors gang. I do believe that the district SHS plays in is weaker than most but give them credit for how they play football. They have some outstanding talent for the size school they have. Cole is great but they have 4-5 kids who would start for either PC or SW if they were there so give them some kudos.
  12. Out of school activities? You mean AAU , Legion or related teams, etc? They are made up of HS athletes at that level now, except football. Anymore you can play baseball 9 months out of the year, including fall ball and indoor batting and fielding practice in the winter. Basketball is worse because you have fall training, summer leagues, team camps, AAU, individual summer camps, the regular season, etc. You can almost get something together 10-11 mos a year. Although football may have a 2 week spring practice (exempt for multi sport athletes)and passing leagues during the summer, there is less preparation for live games than the other sports and it certainly takes much more coordination and timing to execute on the football field than let's say basketball. When dead period ends football should begin especially since the season starts so much earlier in the school year. Soccer should have the same concession.
  13. You are welcome to watch a REAL game this week, come on over, no offense to SHS but that one should be REAL ugly.
  14. Wouldn't it be great to have a site that has the "greatest hits" from some of these kids and get the highlights together and have some fun with that? It could have clips from each week and then there could be a poll on the best of the best.
  15. If you leave out Somerset you'll be making a mistake IMO, not because I'm a fan but they do have talent and experience. They can play with Breathitt, Mason, Sheldon Clark, etc. They are improving each week and have the personnel to beat you on any night.
  16. Hopper, I wasn't talking about this year, but looking ahead for alot of programs. Sure the cream of the crop will win but as programs taste a little success it's something they can build on. As it was, St.X & Trinity were always the front runners in 4A. Now some 5A schools will duke it out, like an Owensboro (whatever class they play in). You made my point with them. Could Owensboro beat St. X? No way. Could a Highlands beat them, maybe but who else?
  17. 1A Beechwood vs. Lynn Camp 2A Metcalfe vs. Corbin 3A Somerset Vs. Tilghman 4A Rockcastle vs. Warren East 5A Pulaski Co. vs. Highlands 6A Madison Central vs. Male
  18. Maybe the word "embarrasing" was a stretch but Maroons will dominate.
  19. With all of the logic going around, points can be made in all directions. Ohio may have 600 schools in 5 Classes, so what. New Jersey probably has 600 schools and has 4 PUBLIC Classes and 3 CATHOLIC (Parochial) Classes. That's right, their private schools compete against each other. This cuts down on the recruiting issue. Is it right? I don't know but to lay blame on one superintendent and say that Somerset's program is lacking work ethic or talent is a stretch. Those kids over there want what every other team desires, a championship. Is it easier for them to get it in 3-A over 1-A or 2-A? I doubt it and only 6 teams will get "rings" this year. I'd like to see Pulaski and Southwestern also have a run at a title and I still believe that having the 5A gives them that chance to work hard for it. Otherwise, all of the money, influence, coaching, feeder system & talent that can be drawn from and to St. X and Trinity in Louisville keeps the old system (4 classes)non-competitive to schools that don't have the draw of players. Have you ever been to the "Toy Bowl" in Louisville? Papa John's get's filled up with people to see elementary kids compete for the city title from thousands of kids. Those kids are feeders to St. X & Trinity. Good for them but what does that say about the upper end of the class system spectrum with that kind of feeder system in place?
  20. I agree that the Dunbar win was a confidence builder for SW but 9 TURNOVERS and the game was still close shows that SW is not there yet to compete with the mighty MAROONS. With 2 pitches being caught by the D for scores shows that SW only could capitalize on 2 of 7 turnovers. PC will not give up the football much at all and Hines & Muse will run like the wind. It could get embarrasing for SW.:ylsuper:
  21. I'm curious, how does the guy from Somerset (who is he? the superintendent?) water down the classes? Is it because of his private/public stance? So you think the 6 class system is bad for the state's football programs? I disagree with you on that premise, here's why. In the past, there were 2 or 3 teams in each class that were "favorites" to win year in and out. Because of that, programs outside of the SUPER teams had a harder time feeling like their programs could compete. Now you have kids playing football with a desire to win a state championship at more schools. Support from parents and administrations will make most schools better in years to come.
  22. If the consolidation of 3 schools makes them a 5A, then the sheer number of kids will put them near the top of 3A during that one year. Like Mercer, they will have probably a complete senior experienced team with alot of depth and skill. I don't see how Breathitt wouldn't have a problem with them as long as the coach wasn't a poor one. IMO Would the 3 schools be Cumberland, Evarts, and Cawood? If so, that puts them with a bunch of hard nosed kids. Harlan is an independent isn't it? I'm guessing.
