Sounds like the coach could use some sensitivity training........he is routinely hurting his opponents feelings.........I think after a good talking to he would realize the importance of letting his opponents leave the gym with a warm fuzzy feeling of only being beaten by 15 or 20. What would happen if EC took every starter out and played only subs after halftime of these blowouts? They lose conditioning......thats what........then when a close game makes it necessary for them to play 4 quarters they then have a increased chance of injury.

Ashland 71 Russell 42
What system can work for Russell this year? Who knows! I don't claim to have the answers, but I have begin to observe "the natives are restless" with the coaching there I have to assume you mean they are "restless" with the middle school, freshmen, and JV coaches.........Isnt this where most of the current roster would have been playing the past couple of seasons? Is it the Varsity coaches sole responsibility for player development as they come up thru the ranks? I am certainly not casting stones toward the coaches at those levels. In fact, I dont even know who they are. I am simply making a point that it would be silly for the "natives" to take out their frustrations on the Varsity coach in what can only be described as a rebuilding year.

Are jump balls being called too quick?
I understood your post completely and I agree with you. I didnt intend to insinuate you were advocating rough play or anything........I was simply offering an explanation as to why officials may be quick to make the held ball call......

Several interesting comments on Ohio and Pennsylvannia coaches by 16th Region officials.......

Are jump balls being called too quick?
I dont think the fear of injury comes from the held ball itself but more from players losing their temper during such action and swinging an elbow or fist. You worry about a team being "penalized" by losing possession but what about a team losing a player for the remainder of the game and an additional game because they lost their temper during a loose ball and got ejected for a punch or flagrant elbow? Seems to me a quick whistle is good game management.

Are jump balls being called too quick?
From the NFHS Rules........ Rule 4 Sec 25 Held Ball A held ball occurs when: Art 1... Opponents have their hands so firmly on the ball that control cannot be obtained without undue roughness. Art 2... An opponent places his/her hand(s) on the ball and prevents an airborne player from throwing the ball or releasing it on a try. I think the quick whistles are simply a precaution to prevent the undue roughness.

Fairview 46 East Carter 43
East was down by 10 in the first half but fought back and did lead most of the second half. I cant say for sure how many times they shot the ball in the 4th but they didnt take many. They ran the offense but just didnt look to score......???

So what is the schedule for Saturday? Matchups and times?

Elliott County 98 East Carter 66
While they may not have huge bodies across the front line, I think their inside game will surprise you. They have a several good leapers, they block out and they have multiply players crash the board.

IMHO I think the physical nature of the girls game in the 16th is now beginning to be on par with the rest of the state. Ask coaches of teams that often travel to Lexington/Louisville and see what they say. The game has been pretty physical in those areas for a long time. Its not in our teams (16th Region) best interest to have every bump called here then go play in big time tournaments or state tournaments where the physical play is part of the game.

Should of started holding it earlier........

Bath Co held the ball on their hip for the final minute or so to prevent Elliott from reaching the century mark........

Boyd County vs Elliott County predictions
When accused of running up the score, I once heard Steve Spurrier say, "Its not my job to stop my offense." As for EC leaving starters in too long......well they only dress what 8 or 10? If you dont have a guard to replace a guard do you insert a unskilled ball handler to run your offense just so you dont hurt your opponents feelings? Dont the subs you insert have just as much right to run their offensive sets and try to improve?

Hill #1 in CJ Coaches Poll
- Has Johnny High Resigned?
Is this Scott Tackett a West Carter graduate that had helped on the West boys staff a fews years recently?- Good advice for parents
I've done some coaching and some officiating but by far the most difficult task is giving instruction to my own 6 yr old daughter. She is truly a gift from God and part of her blessing is to teach her father patience.- #1 You make the call!
It just took about 5 days for this one to get straightened out......A poor old offical only has a split second to know the answer......- Rate the coaches in the 16th
Please remember the opposite also holds true......You dont have to be out of the box, shouting or jumping up and down to receive a T.......Just say the magic words and you might get one while sitting in your seat....By the way, there are several "magic words" and I dont just mean cursing.- #1 You make the call!
There is no frontcourt/backcourt during a throw in so to speak. The court status only becomes relevant when the throw in ends and such status is determined. If that status is with one foot on either side of the mid court line then you have backcourt status and may pass the ball further into backcourt if you so choose.- #1 You make the call!
No violation in the scenario you described- #1 You make the call!
I think I would refrain from calling a violation because as I "visualize" the play described, I dont think the ball ever achieved frontcourt status. I think the dribbler having one foot in backcourt, thereby keeping the ball in backcourt status, supercedes the "touching" by another member of team A. - Has Johnny High Resigned?
