  1. Dude.....its Bogey not Boogie...... Shooter you are probably right about his actions after the Russell game this season and I would agree there is no excuse for not shaking hands afterwards. My point was that Mr Hicks has behaved better on the sidelines during games over the past few seasons than he did upon his arrival. Nothing more...I am not in support nor in opposition to Coach Hicks. Just an observation. I have also observed some "not so nice" actions by a head coach at Russell as well......
  2. I really dont have a dog in this fight but I have to disagree with you on this point. When Hicks first came into the 16th Region he was incredibly animated on the sidelines and sometimes let his emotions get the best of him. Once he became more comfortable here with the officials etc.....he no longer acted as you describe. I bet if you poll your local officials you will find they tend to agree with me.
  3. I hear interviews were held last night........any word on this position?
  4. I thought the Faulkners were dismissed from the Russell team. To be more specific I thought one of them was dismissed and Mommy decided it was a package deal....lose one lose them both. Is that not correct? If that is the case, it would seem to me "Coach A" knew the consequences of such a decision and was ready to accept those consequences. That alone should have been enough to quash the Russell faithfuls hopes of a 3-peat as you suggest they had planned on. Even before the Russell folks learned that Rose Hill had graciously opened their hearts and arms to the dismissed student athletes, I am sure they were deeply concerned about how they could possibly compete with the ever so talented "Coach B".
  5. During the 4 or 5 times I was able to see this years team play, I noticed Ms Faulkners ball handling skills as well. My opinion of those particular skills vary greatly from your observation. In fact my notes from scouting the games say "weak w/left hand" and "starts offensive set too high". While I wasnt too impressed with he offensive skill set, I thought her defense was solid.
  6. You can still have these same coaches doing all these specific duties but they need to do it from the stands. They can report their info at halftime and make necessary adjustments.
  7. Shot Clock: Hope it never happens in high school but if it were ever added then do away with 10 sec in backcourt all together. This would promote and reward strong defensive effort. Refs: Anyone who cant see the benefit of 3 in todays game simply doesnt know what they are talking about. The kids are bigger and faster today than ever before and in good screening offensive sets it is IMPOSSIBLE for 2 to see all the action. One day a serious injury will occur off a screen in a 2 man game and when everyone from the KHSAA to the refs to the janitor gets hit with a lawsuit maybe we will see 3 become mandatory. All Mom and Dad have to say is "You knew of a better way to officiate the game by using 3 but you chose to use 2 to save a few bucks. Now our little Johnny needs plastic surgery to repair the gash from that kids elbow." Sounds like a liable case to me.....Say there arent enough good ones to go around? How do the others get any better without experience? What happens when your "good ones" retire? Timeouts: Good as they are but get the teams READY TO PLAY on the 2nd horn. Huge time waster.... Coaches: Only need 2 on the bench max w/one trainer and one waterboy/girl. Cant think of a reason to have any more than 2. This is a game, not practice. If you need a coach to give every kid individual instruction during a timeout then what did you do in practice? Rules: Do away with the 3 point line in high school. Someone said this helped kids develop a shot and get PT that they may not have otherwise received. I think the 3 pt line has done more to hurt overall shooting than anything else EVER. The kids that get PT simply because they can hit the 3 are most often a liability on the defensive end. Earn your PT by working on foot speed a bit instead of that long range bomb. I guarantee the foot speed and playing solid D will get you more minutes. Another change would be to remove the foul count from every scoreboard in America. It is useless.....All it does is allow the coach and fans to start yelliing, "Hey Ref, Fouls are 7-1". Do you realize what you just said to the guy? You are accusing him of cheating...Either you insuate he cheated you to get the fouls to 7-1 OR you want him to cheat the other guys to even 'em up! Better yet, lets do away with the bonus situation all together so we dont need to count team fouls. Make every foul a two shot penalty. End of story.
  8. What exactly is the penalty for being placed on "probation" by the KHSAA? Are they ineligible for post season play during this time? Does this effect all sports at GCHS? What bearing will this have on hiring a new basketball coach?
  9. Anybody planning to attend? Looks like pretty nice rosters from both states....
  10. I heard his father hoped to follow Matt to whatever school he ended up signing with.........Any truth to this?
  11. I believe Smith brings alot more to the table as far as being able to train the officials and help them improve. Billman is a great official but doesnt have the knowledge/ability of Smith. Baker would be a mistake.
  12. Care to share their names????
  13. Any buzz on who will be interviewed?
  14. Anybody have an update on the status of this course? I heard that MSU was trying to buy it and if they didnt it may not open this season. I was told in the past day or two that MSU has purchased the course, it has or will soon open and they plan to shut down 9 holes for repair this summer then do the other 9 nine next summer. Any truth to this?
  15. Sorry Wireman....just trying to get my moneys worth........I can go back to lurking for awhile if you prefer.
  16. Crager resigned his position in bball and fball at the end of the season. He was given an award at the regional tournament for something like 25 years in the position.
  17. Any word on a new Assigning Secretary in this region? I never have seen this job posted on the KHSAA site or anywhere else for that matter.....
