#1 You make the call!

Featured Replies

Seen this on football forum, thought it would be good to do on here to.

White #4 has the ball driving to the basket, stops to take jump shot from 8 feet out, Red #55 jumps up and goaltends the shot, but before White #4 comes back to the ground runs over Red #20 who was in legal guarding position before White #4 left the ground for the shot.

What is the call?

If I understand your description clearly, I think this is the only time you will count the basket when a player control foul is called.

I don't think high school allows a made basket on an offensive foul like this.

I will let a little discussion on the play to take place! Either we are going to count the basket or not. Answer later today.

Basket will count , foul after the basket right.

IMO Goal is good, foul on 20 in red shoot 1 freethrow, white 4 should have room to come down to the court from a jumpshot, sounds like 20 red moved up under him, even if he started in a legal position.

As per rule 7-5-7, goaltending occurs, which is a violation, so basket is good! Then player control foul is committed by white, which will result in Red getting ball out of bounds and is able to run the end line because of the awarded basket.

Like fishtie said, this is the ONLY TIME, that you can count a basket on a player control foul.

Can you tell me what 7-5-7 says. My rulebook is old and doesn't deal with this issue when looking at 7-5-7.

New/unusual sitution:

A-1 is straddling the division line and dribbling when a teammate, who is running along side A-1 has one foot in the frontcourt and the other in the air over the division line when the ball touches him/her and rebounds into the backcourt. A-1 is the first to touch the ball. Official rules this a backcourt violation.

Is this ruling correct?

The ball touched Team A in the front court, where they were standing legally in the front court, so when it is first touched by Team A in the back court, you do have a violation.

Or does it have to be "controlled" by Team A in the front court, not just touched??? Anyone???

I think I would refrain from calling a violation because as I "visualize" the play described, I dont think the ball ever achieved frontcourt status. I think the dribbler having one foot in backcourt, thereby keeping the ball in backcourt status, supercedes the "touching" by another member of team A.

I was thinking the same thing, but if it went off the other offensive player who was standing in or running in "front court" the dribbler would now have an interrupted dribble or fumble, that touched a player in front court which I think gives it front court status, so Team A would be the first and last to touch in front court and first to touch in back court, therefore, backcourt violation. In my opinion.

In the first scenario, the "basket" is neither good nor nogood because it never went through. Two points are awarded as a penalty for the goaltending, and it has nothing to do with the action which followed.
