I was wondering the same thing. I thought Estes came in and did a great job last night. Threw strikes and did all that was asked of him.

While it was a tough loss for Lloyd, I thought this was a very good high school baseball game. Pitching was in control of this game all night long. Pittman for Lloyd threw a great game making one mistake that got hit out of the park, and threw 77 pitches in the complete game loss. Also, the Campbell Co. pitchers did a great job all night and despite some defensive miscues they turned some key double plays when needed. Two tough one-run losses for Lloyd this week. But being in those games will show them what it takes to win in the long run. That is why we get to play 36 of these games!

Going on who I have seen thus far, I'd have to say that Owensboro Catholic and Beechwood have to be favorites to get out of their regions and can compete for the title at Applebees. Also I would think that Lexington Christian will compete for the title with an All-American on their staff. Who else does Lex. Christian have on the mound since Ross can't pitch every game?

I don't think that Conner has the pitching to shut down the offensive firepower of CCH. Conner's offense is pretty solid but they won't be able to hit with CCH.

Beechwood by as much as they want. I agree that if the ball is put in play then Dayton will pretty much hand them the runs they need to win, but along with that, I believe Beechwood will do more than just put the ball in play and win handily.

The good news is that at some point this season, it will all get settled on the field so none of this even matters!

I also believe that it should be a very competitive district in the 34th. They surely aren't the headliners of the 9th Region but when they bring their A games it is possible that they could compete and make some noise this season.

As far as the Lloyd-Dayton game goes, Lloyd and Coach Moore did all it could to make sure that the score did not get run up. There were something like 16 walks. The umpire even opened the strike zone up as big as he could to help move the game along but some pitches just were not close enough to be called strikes. On top of that, you cannot ask kids to go up to the plate and get out on purpose, especially when people talk numbers as a big part of evaluating players. Sure you want them going up there hacking in such a lopsided game but you also do not want kids taking poor swings to develop bad habits. It is what it is, but if you were at the game, you'd know that it didn't get intentionally run up.

Lloyd gets a complete game from Pat Thompson and opened up the game with a five run inning thanks to some timely hitting. Lloyd moves to 4-2 on the season and 1-1 in the Tate High School Tournament, after losing on Tuesday to Faith Academy from Alabama. Lloyd also suffered its first defeat to West Florida Technical High School on Tuesday, and will play Owensboro Catholic tomorrow night.

Watching Jones play today, it seems apparent that he has some raw talent that has yet to be reined in. He was very smooth in his warmups and showed a good arm, but at times during the game it appeared as though he simply tried to make the routine plays a lot more difficult than they needed to be. But the kid is only a sophomore and with experience I believe those mistakes will go away. He did however make a couple of amazing plays in the field and swung a decent bat. As for the Juggs, they appeared a little more flat than in their win over Conner. I thought Judd walked a few too many hitters and along with a few errors in the field with a key Bellevue hit or two thrown in, that seemed to be what cost him his only runs. But after Bellevue battled back to tie it at 6, Lloyd responded well with a 6 run outburst in the bottom of the 5th that seemed to deflate the opponents. It is great to see Lloyd start the year 2-0. Coach Moore does a great job with those kids so hopefully he will be able to keep the momentum rolling for the rest of the week before the team heads down to Florida for a little bit warmer weathered baseball.

Aside from some of the top teams who everyone tends to know about, this poll is completely arbitrary. It gives everyone something good to debate about but means nothing when it comes to playing games (if spring would ever show up!).

Brian Hamilton from Villa definitely doesn't get the respect he deserves as a hitter. One of the tops in the area last year against relatively tough schedule by Villa terms. His defense hasn't been the best at times at SS, but the kid sure can swing a good bat and is an all around great kid!

I love the idea of a double elimination tournament. As mentioned before it is exactly what is done in the NCAA baseball tournament, minus the Super Regionals. I do like the idea of once you establish the final two teams in the state, set the finals up so that there is enough rest for each team to be at full rest and then play a 3 game series which again shows the best overall team.

Congrats to Patrick. Great kid joining a great program. I may be biased since I was a part of that program but he'll do great!

I didn't see if contact was actually made or not, but it seemed like the runner may have tried to avoid the third baseman instead of running directly into him which would have made it more obvious.

I was honestly waiting for the interference call to go Cov Cath's way when the umpires conferenced on the field. Had that happened I think that Coach Roesel would have had an early exit from the ball game... I couldn't see it from where I was sitting on the third base line, but it sure was close. Reminded me of that Snickers commercial where the umpire has to make the call on the home run down the line, if anyone has seen it???

As far as things go with Maile, he laced an offspeed pitch past a diving shortstop in the first inning with no one on. His next at bat he saw 4 offspeed pitches, that were all balls for an unintentional intentional walk. His final two at bats he was already being pointed down to first before his name was even announced. Once, with a runner on second and 1 out, and I believe that the second time loaded the bases. Even though he wasn't given a chance offensively, it was quite apparent that he is the real deal!!! Not only for the offensive respect he was given but just the way that he commands the game. Talking to pitchers, speaking with his coaches, and the way he carries himself. I was VERY impressed.

I think that 21 years of 20 win seasons certainly puts you right up with the best if not THE best. Hard to question a decision by Coach Krumps but tonight may be one of the few times you have to do it. Congrats Ryle and great season to Cov Cath. I'm sure we'll be hearing plenty more from both these schools in the years to come.

Has anyone seen the new pitching technique that former NL Cy Young winner Mike Marshall is teaching? It is supposed to eliminate all arm troubles.

Tonight will be Northern Kentucky baseball at its best! Can't wait til 7pm so we can see what should be a great baseball game...

No matter who says what, this game will be settled on the field. This is a place for fans to show their allegiance to the teams they adore and each has done so quite often on this site. All Ryle fans are saying that they will win and that they expect to win as are Cov Cath fans. Should be a fantastic ballgame and I can't wait to go watch.

I've played baseball all of my life and have now started coaching some too. Are those things (labels on gloves or long strings) really distracting for hitters? I was always focusing on the ball in the pitchers hand and not on his glove so maybe I just never noticed.

Wasn't able to make the games tonight, but will be there for the finals... I will go ahead and ask who came through big for Cov Cath now even though I know I'll be reading all about it once everyone makes it home from the game. Good luck in the finals against Ryle, Colonels!
