  1. Just so you are aware, even the top draft picks spend time in "rookie ball in the middle of nowhere." But I do agree that it MAY not be for 2 or 3 years and playing SEC ball is a going to be just as competitive, if not, more so.
  2. This, I believe, is the key. Competing against the best teams is one thing for confidence, but getting blown out by the best teams, in my opinion, can be detrimental to confidence.
  3. I also like this a lot. However, there is a fine line to walk between scheduling tough opponents to prepare your team for tournament time and teaching your teams how to win. I'm not sure what Coach Baioni has returning, so I cannot speak to their level of being able to compete with those teams. I just know, for a fact, that while it is beneficial to schedule competitive teams (for reasons of being ready for postseason and also seeing what it takes to be a top notch high school program), there is also something to be said for winning games and making sure that the players are not getting so frustrated with losing. Because sometimes it doesn't matter if you are playing the top teams in the state day in and day out, losing will sometimes be able to take its toll on players. So if Coach Baioni is able to keep his teams spirits up (which I believe he is the type who can) or his team is able to compete and win some games while competing against a tough schedule or he has a healthy mix of winnable vs. challenging games, then I believe this to be a very wise strategy in the long run.
  4. Saw him play this year and was very impressed with his skills as a catcher and at the plate. The only thing I noticed was that he tended to have a little bit of an attitude when things were not going his way. Perhaps I caught him on a bad day or at a bad moment, but nonetheless I saw it and hopefully it was just an isolated incident for his sake. Nevertheless, I wish him nothing but the best as he has the abilities to have a very solid future in college baseball and perhaps beyond.
  5. The difference between the offer you mention for Curley and the offer mentioned for Maile is that Curley has already spent a few years in college and put up numbers to maximize the opportunity to even receive that offer. Maile however is already receiving a substantial portion, if not all, of his college tuition in scholarship and now has the ability through playing three years in SEC play to take what could be a $50k (as you suggest in your hypothetical) signing bonus and maximize that into something 10 times that if not more, while at the same time receiving a quality education for practically nothing and honing his baseball skills in one of the best, if not the best, baseball conference in the country. I know there are risks involved in not becoming involved in professional baseball right away, but if he is willing to take that risk, then the reward could be great for him.
  6. Parker Ryle does a phenomenal job behind the plate and can really swing the bat at the plate too. Not to mention he is an excellent individual as well. Definitely very underrated. I look for him to blossom next spring into a very productive player!
  7. I'm not sure where you put him or who you would remove, but Lloyd's Dylan McGuire should deserve to be mentioned in this conversation somewhere with a chance to make this list.
  8. Simply telling you where the Division I and II stuff comes from, no more no less.
  9. Northern Kentucky has divisions for their baseball schools as part of the NKAC (Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference). Then each of the schools will play the others in a conference schedule that is issued at the beginning of the season. These games are usually honored unless a rainout causes a rescheduling problem or there is a tournament such as the All A that interferes with some of the smaller schools.
  10. Completely agree. He's a very talented player with all the tools, accolades and statistics to back them up who even if not named to one of the first two teams should be at least listed as an honorable mention player for the 9th Region.
  11. As an honest observer with absolutely no ties to Cov. Cath, I find it almost laughable that Ryan Darner is not on either of these teams or even an honorable mention for All-State with the numbers he put up this season. Hitting with protection from Mr. Baseball or not, you still have to hit the ball and produce and he did just that all season long at an amazing clip. I know that worthy players are left off the list year in and year out, but the voters quite simply got this one wrong.
  12. Listening now and they are in Round 28 and he has yet to be drafted.
  13. If you look at the position of the catcher in this instance, he is CLEARLY up the line and not in the home plate area and should therefore not be afford the same protections of the collision rule. I did not see the collision in the Harrison Co. game so I will not comment on that one. But I see no problems with this one.
  14. As it was said going into the bottom of the 7th on the internet radio, "time for Cov Cath to put up or shut up." Just couldn't show up in the big game again, which is a real disappointment for those seniors who had a phenomenal career and will have great careers beyond high school. But, Congrats to the Tigers and Coach Myerhoff!
  15. How do you quit playing if you aren't playing anywhere to begin with? Aside from that, I agree that they definitely should be playing somewhere. Surely they could find a team without too much difficulty.
  16. Don't count out Dixie. If anything, Dixie has ample pitching that could help them advance through this tournament with three quality left handers. Their offense might not be able to compare but they have already beaten Cov Cath once this year which could give them some much needed confidence in that matchup. It could be possible for them to knock a few teams off and make a run at a title, especially if they get any offense at all.
  17. The facilities are pretty nice. Nothing too spectacular but not poor by any means. There should be plenty of parking that is close to the field as well.
  18. You also can't win the tournament by losing in the first round. Not saying Mason Co. will beat them with either on the mound but if you go home without throwing your ace then shame on you.
  19. Usually when kids decide to "sign" with schools that do not offer scholarships, they are pretty much just doing it for the formality of the process of choosing where they will being going to school and having a sort of an "official signing" is ceremonial to allow the kid to receive some much deserved attention for furthering his baseball career at the next level. Congrats Mr. Hammonds!
  20. My personal take on this is that sometimes you can extend a pitcher in certain situations. Perhaps the kid is a senior, where he will be a bit more physically developed than say a sophomore or even a junior. Also, it was a warm day today and that helps keep a player's arm loose and won't allow it to tighten up as much as it would when you are younger. It also depends on the kid himself. If he has a history of recovering well and is honest with you about how his arm feels on a regular basis (it is possible to tell that a kid isn't honest with you), then sometimes I don't see the harm in extending him into the 120s on an occasion or two throughout the season, especially in situations like these. Again, these are just my thoughts. I'm not in favor of getting a kid's arm hurt, but I believe that there are times you can stretch a pitcher out and it isn't that bad of a thing.
  21. There was a write up in the paper online. St. Henry won in 5 innings, 11-1.
