  1. I was at the game and feel as though Hammonds was losing it on the mound as well. While a few of the runs he gave up were unearned, he did look like he was losing his gas in the 6th inning, which most likely prompted the pitching change because he wanted a fresh arm to close out the last inning and you cannot anticipate the walks, especially up 5 runs. Personally, I think that with York on the mound that Ludlow can be dangerous and people should watch out for them anyway. Not saying they will win but that they could make things interesting. As for Dixie, with Nichols on the mound I believe that they can be dangerous as well and may have a bit better lineup to support him. However, I'm not sure what their pitching depth aside from him is. Again, not sure how far they can make a run but definitely could give someone a scare.
  2. I agree with you as well. I would definitely have him hitting up in the front of the order based on what I've seen and what I know of him. I can only guess or hope that would be the thinking of the coach.
  3. I agree. When I saw them play, he hit in the 9 hole and had a triple, double and single. Seemed like he was wasted in the bottom of the lineup though because no one was able to get on in front of him. However, it is always good to have a solid 9 hitter to turn the lineup over.
  4. Well, that being my alma mater, I'd love to see nothing more than St. Patrick pull off what would be a huge upset. Can't wait to hear the pairings!
  5. It appears as though the 39th district could make a quick exit from this tournament. I'm assuming that Mason Co. is hoping to draw Nicholas Co.??? But as for St. Patrick, it appears as though their fate is sealed as a one and done having to play either Brossart, Harrison Co., or GRC.
  6. This is going to be a great day of baseball in a terrific venue with perfect baseball weather. I can't wait to get out and watch the games on Monday. Northern KY baseball at its finest!
  7. I could not agree more. Great job to Grady and the Wildcats!
  8. With York going for Ludlow and Nichols going for Dixie, it appears as though Newport may be the only easy draw going into the first round of the regional tournament. Certainly, the offenses of those two teams (Ludlow and Dixie) may not stack up with a Ryle or a Cov Cath, however an off night by an offense when a pitcher is on can cause anything to happen.
  9. York is a great pitcher. As is Nichols. And no the 34th isn't the toughest district in the world, but it is tournament time and if someone doesn't come ready to play, pitchers like York and Nichols can lead their team to upsets over someone who may be looking ahead to the next game.
  10. When Nichols is on the mound, Dixie becomes a very dangerous team. Good luck to them in the regionals!
  11. Beechwood would be the home team because they played Holmes and thus earned the #1 seed through the blind draw. Cov. Cath having to play Holy Cross would mean they were a #2 and #3 seed game so the higher seed would be the home team.
  12. This sounds like the old days when pitchers would go out and throw complete games in both parts of a doubleheader. Anyone have a final score to the game this occurred in?
  13. To my recollection, the Beechwood, HC, and CC district has not been in effect for the past 6 years. I'm not exactly certain, how the districts were structured prior to realignment but I do know that they haven't been what they are now, for all 6 of those years. I do recall that Ludlow, did beat Cov. Cath in one of those years as well. Nonetheless, congrats to Ludlow on making the regional tournament!
  14. i too have greatly enjoyed reading this discussion to get a point of view from the umpire side about what goes on. and i too can only echo the point that as a coach what i am looking for from an umpire is a consistent zone. this allows me as a coach to say to a player who may have complained about a strike call that the umpire has been calling it there all game for both teams and that he needs to make an adjustment. if i don't believe it is a strike, then i will tell my players not to swing at that pitch until he has two strikes and then just try to spoil those close pitches until the pitcher makes a mistake.
  15. ludlow beat lloyd. 12-2 is what i heard. dixie beat villa. 11-0.
  16. marinaro did a great job in the first game for the royals pitching and keeping the hitters from villa off stride.
  17. Finals. Mason County takes first game of DH tonight in Maysville 4-2. Villa Madonna rallies for 6 runs in the top of the 7th to win the 2nd game 14-13 capped off by a 2 out grand slam by junior Will Ries to give the Blue Lightning a 1 run lead. Villa Madonna 8-14 Mason County 7-15
  18. i disagree with the take on NCC's field being even a decent one. there is a giant ridge that goes from first to second and the outfield is as choppy and non-level as i've seen.
