  1. TOG, Stein made a heck of a play on that popup in shallow center (went a LONG way) for the first out in the top of the 7th. Pretty well played game by both teams with a few critical mistakes by the Camels to cost them some runs or give up some runs.
  2. How does this help them become 37th District "champs" anyway? First, you only become a #1 seed during the regular season and second, Cov Cath and Scott aren't even in the same region, let alone same district.
  3. I guess I get the impression that the kids feel that they are having to choose one sport because if not, then they get left behind on depth charts, rotations or lineups. If that is the case, then it seems like coaches would have some influence. I'm not saying that is happening directly, just an impression I have gotten.
  4. Shouldn't it be the kid's option to choose what sports he/she wants to play. If the kid wants to focus on one sport, then that should be his/her perogative. But if the kid wants to play more then so be it. As coaches, they shouldn't be limiting the kids ability to play what they want because they are simply chasing wins and championships.
  5. It was actually an all Maysville/Alexandria semi-finals. Mason County beat Campbell County, Brossart beat St. Patrick, then Brossart went on to beat Mason County to advance to state where it won its first game before falling in the quarterfinals.
  6. St. Patrick, Fleming County and Mason County all had some pretty good teams and quality games in the mid to late 90s. Fleming County made the State Final 4 in 1998 and made a return trip to Rupp in 1999. I believe it was the team from 1996 or 1997 that gave St. Patrick it's first win over Mason County ever, which culminated in what I believe is St. Patrick's last victory over Mason County in the 2000 district title. As mentioned, St. Patrick went 20-9 and lost in the regional semis that year to Brossart, 61-60, the night before Brossart defeated Mason County on a buzzer beater by Justin Seiter at The Fieldhouse. For a couple of years, those three teams were as good as anyone in the region. Since Fleming left and St. Patrick's talent level has dropped off, along with some guys named Lofton, Grutza, Setty(s), and Miller, the District has been undeniably weaker than it has probably ever been.
  7. Note: I'm not in any way trying to indicate that they don't know what they are talking about or that they aren't good. I was just wondering if anyone has any knowledge on what their approaches are and how they teach. I know that they both have great resumes with professional experience, but I've seen many major leaguers who say one thing about how they hit, but in fact, do the opposite when they get to the plate.
  8. No offense, but outside of "they both relate well to kids", that say a whole lot. Have you seen them teach? What are their approaches to hitting? What kind of drills do they do? What kind of advanced work do they do? What are they looking for in a swing?
  9. Can someone tell me what they look for in an instructor or what makes the instruction of Berger/Hook so good? How do they conduct their lessons? Do they simply use tee and soft toss then throw live to you and instruct from that? I don't know and am just curious.
  10. I am confident that Coach Hinson wasn't running up the score. However, I do know that when Brossart beat Silver Grove earlier this year (83-15) that there were some remarks about that not being ok and that the winning team in these instances should be able to keep the margin a little less lopsided. This doesn't feel much different with the margins of victory being similar. But not quite the same reactions here. I'm not saying that there should be. It's just easier I think for people to get on Brossart or other schools for large margins of victory because they win more often, but forgive a school like Augusta because they've taken their share of beatings. Just a thought.
  11. Makes things a lot easier for this year. Next year, we can reopen the debate on the others.
  12. I agree with the comment about the stat-stuffer, not necessarily always being the best player, to an extent. Prewitt/Stenzel obviously are able to do more because they have other talented players to give them space to score. McGovney is pretty much the extent of the Campbell County offense (meaning no offense to the rest of the players on the team). He draws 2 players regularly (not that the others don't) and sometimes 3. Nate's numbers are impressive in that his shooting % reflects that he doesn't always take bad/forced shots, which would be easy for a player of his caliber to do given the players around him. If you've watched him play, it's easy to see that he does a lot more than score even though he has limited help. But he doesn't try to force the action to create more opportunities to inflate his stats. In fact, at times, he's probably even too unselfish. But, just because his team is 14-10 or whatever it is, doesn't mean that he should be discounted from the discussion. He may not win, but his play certainly warrants being in the discussion as one of the top 2-3 players in the region. I'd think that it would be easier to label him as an MVP than a POY, given that without him, his team would have no chance to win a District Title or compete in the region. If you take the other two off their team, they may not be as good, but they'd be a lot more competitive. Regardless, they are all talented players and should all get a lot of consideration for being the best in the 10th this year.
  13. When did the district, as it is now, form? The last district tournament that Mason Co. lost, I believe, was in 2000 to St. Pat. Pretty sure that they haven't lost since then though.
  14. In looking at the play by play in the webcast, this looked like a 3 pointer at the buzzer to win? It had Berger(?) entering the game with around 2 seconds left and hitting a 3 to win it. Where did he hit it from?
  15. My apologies. I'll just stick to calling them Lady Cats. Impressive, nonetheless.
  16. I was following that FT stat as well throughout this contest. Looks like WV has made 4/5 now and leads by 24 (56-32) as the game comes to a close. Impressive showing by the Wildcats. Over 50% from the field.
  17. Obviously, in the literal sense, if you play at home, you have a "home-court" advantage. But, there are many additional facets to that "advantage" that can be gained by having a favorable crowd that is engaged in what is taking place on the court. Sometimes those things can be disruptive for a visiting team especially when the teams are in a close game or evenly matched, which is how those teams appeared to me. That was simply not the case last night from the atmosphere I observed.
  18. Just curious and not trying to cast any blame, but what has happened to the atmosphere in The Fieldhouse? In all the years that I have been to there, I always remember it always being a great crowd of fans and especially students. The student section was non-existent and there really was no home court advantage last night. Outside of the band playing, you could've heard a pindrop in that place. The Fieldhouse, as I recall, used to just have an atmosphere that said KY high school basketball.
  19. I wouldn't worry about him too much. I've encountered lots of players with this issue and fortunately for most of them, they tend to work it out. He comes from a great family, so I'd say he'll be alright.
  20. I don't think anyone was trying to compare anyone to Martin. Martin is indeed a phenomenal player and the best pitcher in the Region. But Fardo is also a quality player and deserves mention in any 10th Region thread that mentions standouts among the teams. Harrison County is always a threat to win the region and compete among the best in the state. This year should be no different, but as last year proved, it is certainly no guarantee.
  21. VOR, I think that is a very fair assessment of the situation. It works for that area so I don't see any reason for them to have to change there ways because it is done differently in NKY or Louisville. If someone says Catholic (most likely out of habit) when they are in a different area, and someone asks them which one they are referring to, then those people obviously shouldn't be offended to say "Lexington". If they are then that is a whole other ball of wax that they need to get over. It doesn't even seem like a big deal to say Catholic under a Lexington Catholic titled thread on BGP. If someone can't deduce about whom he/she is talking, read a few posts from above and try to figure it out. It just seems silly to me that people jump to the assumption that Catholic is used to imply some sort of elitist status over the rest of the Catholic schools in the Commonwealth. It is merely convenience as are all the other examples provided in this thread.
  22. Is it really that big of a deal? People in Northern Kentucky shorten Newport Central Catholic to New Cath. Are they really the "New" Catholic school in the state of KY? No. It's just convenient and easy and still not the "proper name of the school". Maybe it is even "lazy". It is asinine to think that Lexington Catholic fans or anyone from the Central KY area uses the phrase "Catholic" to imply that they are the only Catholic school in the state of KY. Just as Newport Central Catholic through local colloquialism has become "New Cath". It's just hard to believe that these Northern Kentucky Catholic high schools feel like they are being slighted because people tend to refer to Lexington Catholic as just "Catholic". Get over yourselves and stop looking for something to complain about.
  23. That homerun was a BLAST! The thing that amazed me was how straight it stayed as it never even flirted with hooking foul but just went for miles and miles.
