With the girls Sweet 16 scheduled to be played first for the next few years, what is your preference as to when the boys regional semi-finals and finals should be played? I've read some complaints about the games being played on Saturday and Sunday afternoons this year, and I've also read some posts from people that liked the afternoon games. What are your thoughts?

Here's the deal.....because RUPP is a first and second round site for the NCAA tourney, the boys & girls Sweet 16's had to flip flop the order this year. Since the girls Sweet 16 is played first this year, their regionals had to be completed first, meaning most regions playing girls semi-finals on Friday night and girls finals on Saturday night. That meant the boys had to decide between playing semi-finals and finals on Monday and Tuesday nights, like the girls have been doing the last several years, or playing Saturday and Sunday afternoon. I've been told that the decision makers were afraid that crowds would suffer on Monday and Tuesday nights more so than they would on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and thus the decision was made to play in the afternoons. I personally prefer the evening games better, even if they were played on week nights. The 3:00 and 3:30 games weren't bad, but I thought noon on Saturday was way too early. I'd be interested to hear other people's opinions on Saturday/Sunday afternoons vs. Monday/Tuesday evenings.

Russell did jump out to a 17-0 lead. Bath Co. fought back and got to within 8 in the 4th qtr. but could get no closer. Bath finished the season really strong and will have a lot of talent coming back next year with Clemmons and Metz both underclassmen.

Actually the tournament schedule was decided by all of the Athletic Directors in the region back in January, and later approved by the region's principles. This was done prior to the tournament's participants being decided. The participating coaches had no say in the tournament's schedule.

Not so fast my friend. According to the KSCA website, there have been 236 Kentucky high school players sign to play college fastpitch softball over the last five years, including this year's senior class. That number will undoubtedly go up considerably as the class of 2007 seniors make their college decisions. Obviously the majority of these signees are not receiving full scholarships to play softball. But they are receiving some scholarship money that they would not have received if they had played slow pitch softball in high school. And yes, many of these players are pitchers but certainly not all of them. The University of Kentucky has four signees on this list, Amber Janneck from Boone Co., Brooke Marnitz from Dunbar, Ali Ray, from North Laurel, and Jennifer Young from North Hardin. Of these four, only Young is a pitcher, and Janneck and Marnitz have had outstanding careers at UK. Also, Mary Ratliff, a former standout catcher from Montgomery Co. is currently the starting right fielder for the University of Florida. Just like Clark and Montgomery face now when we go to Campbell or Brossart for a baseball or softball regional tournament. But we don't complain about that because the sites rotate every year, which makes it fair for everyone.

I agree with your eight teams. However, I'd pick Campbell to win the 37th. I don't think they lost as much from last year as Brossart. I believe Brossart started 7 seniors last year in the regional tournament. They do always seem to reload though. The 40th is a tossup between Clark and Montgomery. These teams were very evenly matched last year with Montgomery winning the district and Clark winning the rematch in the regional finals 1-0 in 8 innings. I'd tend to give a slight edge to Montgomery based on the fact that they only lost one starter from last year while Clark lost four.

Brandon does have a very bright future and I agree, may be one of the best on the ball defenders in the region. However, I can gurantee Bart hasn't put any restrictions on him on the offensive end. If you don't believe me, ask any of his teamates how many times this season Bart has told him he needs to look to score more. You have to realize that he is the only sophomore playing in a rotation with juniors and seniors and he doesn't have a real aggressive personality. I think he defers to his teamates far too often. He has shown flashes of brilliance at times this year and I think he has a couple of very good years in front of him. I know I'm looking forward to watching him play for the Indians for the next two years.

You lost me there....I never said anything about travel time. But since you brought it up, based on this statement, I assumue you would agree that it isn't fair that every other team in the 10th region has to travel and Mason Co. doesn't. :confused: My entire arguement has always been about FAIRNESS. It simply is not fair for the same team to host the regional tournament on their home floor every year for nearly 40 years. Now there is another gym in the region capable of hosting it. Is it as big as the Fieldhouse? Not exactly. Is Mt. Sterling as centrally located in the 10th region as Maysville? Not exactly. Are these issues as important as creating FAIRNESS for the kids involved? At least in my opinion....NOT EXACTLY!!!

I personally hate these schedules nowadays. I liked it much better when the girls played on Mon/Thurs and the boys on Tues/Fri. Now there are a lot of boy/girl double headers and the JV teams get the short end of the stick. Another downside is having to take two buses to away games for a boy/girl double header instead of one for varsity/jv games, thus increasing travel costs. I understand the arguement from the girls side wanting to play the prime-time Friday night games. Why couldn't the KHSAA designate every other week as Mon/Thurs-girls, Tues/Fri-boys and the next week Mon/Thurs-boys, Tues/Fri-girls? That way the girls get an equal number of Friday night games, the JV teams get their games in, and travel costs could be decreased. As long as the coaches know which week is which when making out the schedules, I don't see why this couldn't work.

You could play a maximum of 29 in the regular season, 2 in the district (or possibly 3 in a five team district), 3 in the region, and 4 in the Sweet 16. That would be a possible 38 or 39 games total.

Looking at their schedule, this appears to be true. You are allowed to play a total of 23 games, and you may count two tournaments as only one game provided you don't play more than four games in those tournaments. The maximum number of regular season games you could play under any scenario would be 29 games.

The last time a SEC tournament was held on a member school's home floor was in 1993, when KY won it in Rupp. It was also held in Rupp in 1986, and KY won that one as well. The SEC currently has a rule that the tournament cannot be held on a member school's home floor, and since 1993, the tournament has rotated between the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, the Super Dome in New Orleans, the Pyramid in Memphis, and the Gaylord Center in Nashville. During that time, no site has hosted more than three straight years.

Anyone know whether or not they have started construction, and if so, when is it supposed to be completed? Looks very nice!
