10th Region attendance for Wednesday's and Thursdays opening game

Featured Replies

As I review the brackets and start times for this weeks games at the Fieldhouse, one would have to expect a less than impressive crowd for the openers on each day beginning at 5pm.

Bishop Brossart vs. Deming.

With a 5 pm start, I am not sure how many people with jobs even in Maysville who are just a basketball guru and have no ties to this game or even if Mason County was playing the first game and love basketball and the tournament can get to this game at the start. The split session for the first round and maybe even the second round is a bad idea, or maybe just the 5 pm start time. I can't imagine folks from N.Ky who are Brossart fans that have jobs can get to Maysville for this game at 5 unless of course vacation time is taken or what have you.

Same thing will be evident on Thursday with Harrison and Scott High playing at 5pm. A decent drive for both teams I believe will affect the attendance for the 5 pm start time.

I know it was a blind draw and none of these schools who have a little bit of a drive to make have a choice for when they play, but in my opinion attendance will be low and again I hope I am wrong. I am not too sure even if Deming, Mason, Augusta...the closer schools to Maysville and fan base who have jobs everyday until most likely 4:30 or 5pm could manage the 5pm starting time. Just my thoughts and best of luck to all schools participating.

And next year they will have to drive to Montgomery County for a possible 5:00 start time? And if not that time, then the 2nd game will be ending around 10:00 to 10:30 pm.

Okay call me dumb, but why do they have to have 2 games on one night? Can they not do 4 nights of playoffs and then championship game on Friday?

Not unless you are going to conflict with the girls regional tournament.

We in Clark Co have always faced these problems every year we are in the tourney traveling to Mason co..

We in Clark Co have always faced these problems every year we are in the tourney.

Except now you drive a comparable distance as the others. You won't face the problem that Brossart will face until you have to come to NKU for the tournament in a couple of years. THEN you will face the same problem.

According to Mapquest

63 miles from Winchester to Maysville

49 miles from Alexandria to Maysville

Winchester to Alexandria or vice versa is 95 miles.

Not the same.

And what do you call compareable. Takes 1 1/2 hour by bus to Mason now. We had to charter buses last year for our kids to be there for the 5:00 game.

We are talking about Montgomery Co next year according to your quote.

It will take you 2 to 2 1/2 hours when you go to NKU in the future. Your kids will be having to leave school early or stay overnight (as Estill County had to on the girls side when they played in the semifinals and finals on back-to-back nights).

Not sure whether it is a better situation to go from an arena that is as close as central for ALL schools in the region

To a setup that every other year a good number of schools are a LONG way away from the regional tournament site.

I know from experience that it is a pain for Mont/GRC when the girls tourney is up here and it is a pain in the hindquarters this year when we have to travel down there. I will miss nights because I am not getting my daughter back home after 11:00 from the regional tournament. I just don't go.

At Mason last year, my daughter and I made 3 out of 4 sessions. This year, probably none, maybe the championship on Sat night.

Again your quote that is what I was refering to.

Just like Clark and Montgomery face now when we go to Campbell or Brossart for a baseball or softball regional tournament. But we don't complain about that because the sites rotate every year, which makes it fair for everyone.

The first round games will have small crowds, gym about 1/2 full and second round will be good crowds, gym 3/4 full and final game will be packed and a possible turn away. This has been the trend as far back as I can remember.

Again your quote that is what I was refering to.

I am confused about what you are saying.

As a coach in girls basketball, I am not sure I would agree with you. When you have a choice that makes it a reasonable drive for EVERYONE each and every year to a choice that makes it a LONG DRIVE for a good % of the district every other year, not sure that is the best option.
