I know I was shocked last night when everyone started showing up around 715 for the 830 Mason Co tip. I was sitting talking to a friend and couldn't get over it.

 

I will preface that of course by saying this is my first experience in a 10th region tournament. I know the crowds will get even larger come this weekend. I already have plans to show up 2 hours early saturday and maybe even 3 hours on sunday. Thank GOODNESS for my mp3 player. : )

There was just no reason to do split sessions for the opening round games. The regional tournament committee was just being greedy.

We got to the second game at about 7:20. Montgomery County didn't bring a real big crowd, but this is the time of year that you see folks wearing blue that you haven't seen all year. Based on the gym's capacity of 5,300; I'd say the attendance was around the 3,500 mark. Not bad for an opening-round game.

Ughh...... that committee would be the Athletic Directors and Coaches in the tournament.

Actually the tournament schedule was decided by all of the Athletic Directors in the region back in January, and later approved by the region's principles. This was done prior to the tournament's participants being decided. The participating coaches had no say in the tournament's schedule.

Ok the ADs & principals had the final say so, but I am sure coaches had some input in the matter.

 

Point being is that all the schools in the region had a say so in the format.

How about a consecutive 9th-10th schedule? Imagine a Saturday with alternating 9th & 10th semis, and a Sunday with back-to-back finals--Pretty good hoops days IMO!!

 

How about NOOOO! If I wanted to watch the 9th regon I would be at Holmes this week instead of the FIeldhouse.

Actually there was a very nice crowd there in the 2nd game tonight it was actually a big crowd.

 

I agree with you mhighfield. There was a very nice crowd at the second game. The sad thing is the gym was no where near full but if it had been at any other gym in the region it would have been a problem seating wise.

Unfortunately, Deming totally missed out on their 10th Region Tournament experience.

 

What a fellow close to our program would call a MCI crowd - Friends and family for the 5pm opener.

 

Good crowd and 100% better atmosphere for the nitecap as both teams had their bands in the house and about a 1/2 to 3/4 full Fieldhouse.

 

Deming did not miss out on their experience. They played their game and had good fan support. Even got some bumps and bruises from the tough "defense" of the Mustangs. You have to realize how small not only the school but the county is. Granted if they would have played the 8:30 game they would have had a few more fans their but not many more. Plus their band was there, were was Brossarts? That's just the chance you take with the luck of the draw. Deming had their experience not only this year but 3 of the last 4.
