True blue (and gold) Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Here is the scenerio: Two technical fouls are assessed against the white team after time runs out for the 2nd quarter. To start the third quarter, the blue team shoots the free throws from the technicals and takes the ball out of bounds. Here is the question: Does the possession arrow switch? I think I know the answer, but the opposite of my expectations happened tonight. It didn't end up effecting the outcome of the game, but could in future instances.
SomersetFootball Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 I say yes because the technicals had nothing to do with the possesion besides they get it back at the end of the free throws. However, if they were the team who would have had the ball coming out, then yea it should switch as well.
CountryBoy7 Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 No i dont belive the possesion arrow switches they are are getting the ball due to the technicals not due to the change of possesion.

Big Bubba Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 They should be shooting before going in at halftime. Not at the start of the third quarter
KSCTU Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 They should be shooting before going in at halftime. Not at the start of the third quarter If the technical occurs after the end of the second quarter then the teams are instructed to go to the locker rooms for the halftime period. the third quarter will begin with the administration of the technical foul penalty. two free throws and the ball for a throw in due to the tecnical foul. the poss. arrow does not, should not and in most cases will not change. an official with the crew should make mention of this to the people at the table to help prevent any confusion.

Chicken dinner, we have a winner. Only times a technical effects the possession arrow is prior to the opening tip, or of course prior to the start of an overtime.
True blue (and gold) Posted February 27, 2007 Author Posted February 27, 2007 Thanks. That is what I thought, too, but it didn't happen that way.
