  1. I had an extremely long rant typed out here and thought better of it. I'll just say that it doesn't surprise me. As a member of the media, I had to pay $5 to cover the Mason-Augusta game after doing nearly every Mason County game, home or away, for the last two years. Not even the media-hating BOKC wanted to take it that far.
  2. And a few others that tell a lot... 5. Indeed. I'm really excited about spending the second half of games looking at my watch and weighing my options between... 1. Bolting out of the arena without doing any interviews and making the hour drive back to do a rush job on the story. 2. Driving all over the area beforehand to scout out a nice spot to steal wireless. 3. Relaying the information over the phone like it's the 1940s. ... Either way, the quality of the coverage will suffer and the readers are the ones who get shortchanged. Quite often I end up making the call between these options on the fly because there's nothing else that can be done about it. I never would have imagined I'd be doing the same thing for the biggest games of the year, especially when they're held in the same state of the art facility I sat in with my laptop back in December. I know of other places that have banned live blogging, and while I don't agree with it, I at least see their argument. The idea of banning all computers, however, makes absolutely no sense at all. Well played BOKC. You couldn't possibly have alienated and angered more people if you tried.
  6. Howard blew it on the timing. The 12 footer could have been the one to seal the deal in the last round, but he wasted it too early. And acting like he was going to do something huge and then going from a step inside the FT line (especially for a 6-11 dude) killed him in contrast to, you know a 5-10 dude jumping over a 6-11 dude.
  7. I will say that it was a nice effort by Harrison, but the timing here is a bit off and "should have won the game" is a little bit of a stretch. Mason did trail 42-38 going into the fourth quarter, but scored the first 10 points of the quarter. They had tied it by the 6:57 mark and took the lead for good at 6:46.
  8. The Dunbar game was scheduled for last Monday, but cancelled due to Dunbar's gym being used as a shelter. As far as I know, it will not be rescheduled.
  9. In this game, they actually started out shooting well from the line (10-14 first half), but regressed back to their season average with a 5-13 second half.
  10. Nope... From the boys cancellation thread...
  11. Friday's Mason County/Rowan County game rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 14 (2:30 at the Fieldhouse)
  12. Friday's Mason County/Rowan County game rescheduled for Thursday, Feb. 5 Tuesday's Mason County/Fleming County game rescheduled for Sunday, Feb. 8 (JV at 2, varsity at 3:30)
  13. Here's what I've got for a box: Mason County 8 14 18 14 -- 54 Henry Clay 14 12 7 11 -- 44 MC: Setty 7 3-8 18, Middleton 6 0-0 12, Downing 5 0-1 10, Pawsat 3 2-3 8, Barner 3 0-2 6, Hamm 0 0-2 0. Totals 24 5-16 54. HC: P.Stewart 3 4-4 11, Kiesling 5 0-0 10, Barnes 2 2-2 6, Johnson 2 0-0 6, T.Stewart 2 0-0 4, Kendall 2 0-0 4, 1 0-0 3. Totals 17 6-6 44. 3-pointers: MC 1 (Setty); HC 4 (Johnson 2, P.Stewart, Parker). JV: Henry Clay 48-46. Records: Mason County 13-4, Henry Clay 12-8.
  14. Worth noting is the possession where HC got a steal and had basically a 2 on 0 at the other end. Russ Middleton hustles down to the other end in time to affect the layup, which is missed, then Barner absolutely engulfs what would have been the putback. Pretty much tells you all you need to know about the 2nd half.
  15. West Carter 8 14 13 27 -- 62 Mason County 21 13 16 23 -- 73 WC: Stevens 10 4-5 24, Perry 6 1-2 14, Oney 4 2-6 10, Carper 2 0-0 4, Reynolds 3 1-2 8, Fultz 1 0-0 2. Totals 26 8-15 62. MC: K.Menke 9 3-6 22, Queen 7 4-6 19, B.Menke 3 2-6 10, Smith 2 3-4 8, Butler 1 3-4 6, Moore 2 0-0 4, Moran 1 0-0 2, Doyle 1 0-0 2. Totals 25 17-28 73. 3-pointers: WC 2 (Perry, Reynolds); MC 6 (B.Menke 2, K.Menke, Butler, Smith, Queen). Records: West Carter 5-9, Mason County 4-11. FG%: MC 54.3 (25/46), WC 40.6 (26/64) 3PT%: MC 46.2 (6/13), WC 20.0 (2/10) Rebounds: MC 37 (K.Menke 10), WC 35 (Stevens 14) TO: WC 12, MC 18
