  1. Ohio-Kentucky All Star Game Damian Eargle, Ohio MVP Nick Gagel, Kentucky MVP I'll get a box score up here in a few minutes.
  2. A quick search shows that you're the same guy who, in the last Ledger-bashing thread, said they should cover no games on a given night rather than cover Ohio games. Glad to see you've stuck to your guns and still believe that out of 8,000 or whatever in a coverage area, you still think you're the only one that matters. Hey, I've got other papers I like better too, and teams I'd rather hear/see/read about than others, but seriously, coverage area is coverage area. Just because I personally don't like UK, doesn't mean I think the Herald Leader shouldn't cover them or because I personally would have rather seen somebody other than Kansas and Memphis in the national championship tonight doesn't mean I think CBS should pack it up and go home. I'm going to leave it at that. This should be a thread about honoring these kids, not for meaningless arguments.
  3. This again? You've gotta be kidding me. But if you'd like them to wipe out half their coverage area just for your personal preferences, maybe everyone's better off with you not as a subscriber. Better yet, you could start your own racer4lefe Daily Herald... You could even have your own weekly column where you bash a bunch of hard working kids from West Union/Ripley/Georgetown etc.
  4. Relax guy... I'm not blaming anyone. Just saying it's a shame the tourney got off to such a good start and then ends up with one decent game over the last two weekends. That's the way it goes sometimes. With what would have appeared to be some pretty good matchups today I just didn't exactly plan on spending tonight looking for a baseball game because the hoops was worthless.
  5. Worst Elite 8 and Final Four ever.
  6. I totally agree with this. I've talked with colleagues a few times about how it's kind of strange that you don't see many of the boys at BC playing more than one sport. At a small school, you can't afford to have a group of your best athletes not participating, whatever the sport. If you look at St. Pat, who has kids like Owens and Anderson participating in everything, I think that's a big part of why they've been successful not only in basketball the last couple years but also have a good soccer team and decent baseball team.
  7. Unless the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation (organization that presents the award) just happens to be making a "special announcement" at the Fieldhouse today about something else, I'd say it's pretty official.
  8. X is down nine at the half but hanging in there fairly well for a team that hasn't, you know, played any defense, made shots, taken care of the basketball, made a single free throw, and has been hacked on nearly every shot inside 3 point range with no whistle.
  9. I'm winning three pools right now with UCLA as my champion in all of them. And I'd gladly see them all crash and burn to see X in the Final Four.
  10. Chris Mofford needs waaaaaay more love than he's getting here, as well as Kyle King. I thought this was a "five best players" thread as opposed to a "who's going to contribute for Mason, Clark and Montgomery" thread.
  11. I, for one, salute the KHSAA for putting their heads together and making the right call. It would have been a terrible shame to see such a fine young man have to sit his final, and biggest, game of his career because a bunch of administrators feel like enforcing the letter of the law is more important than the spirit of the law. If David Stern had the courage to stand up and make that call, we'd be taking about the defending champion Phoenix Suns right now.
  12. Is it now okay to say that Mason didn't exactly bring their A game Thursday, or will 16th region homers still kill me for that?
  13. If Mason County plays like Mason County, they win by 20. If Mason County plays like they did tonight, they lose by 20.
  14. Ryan Hamm made three huge shots. I don't have it in front of me right now but we were talking earlier about how at least two, maybe all three, gave Mason the lead when they were trailing/tied and his last gave them the lead for good.
  15. I've got Mason and LexCath about even but like Mason's road to get there much better.
  16. No offense, but i skipped 4 pages of posts. All I have to say is Most. Overrated. Winter. Storm. Ever. Like, I'm not a big global warming guy, but why havent we had a snow in more than 10 years? I remember freaking out when we got an ice storm in 96 because I'd never seen anything like it. We went out and tried to pley street hockey. Now we never ever get a snowstorm and ice is the norm. Discuss.
  17. I'll be honest. I wasn't a fan of the idea of the region being somewhere other than the Fieldhouse but figured what's done is done and I might as well go in with an open mind. Really the place couldn't have possibly been more hospitable, as far as everyone I dealt with. They went above and beyond in trying to get my wireless set up which ended up most likely being a problem with my computer. Due to me dealing with computer problems I didn't have a chance to make it to the hospitality room but I heard it's one of the best spreads in the recent history of hospitality rooms. If I have a critique, it comes back to basics and I feel like in the original plans they could have sacrificed some aesthetics to put more butts in seats but we've been over that too many times. Basically I say so far so good.
  18. I have to think everybody wants to draw Pendleton, but for what its worth those kids are playing with a heck of a lot of emotion right now.
  19. Here's what I've got... Deming 11 10 25 13 -- 59 Pendleton County 11 14 12 26 -- 63 D: K.King 7 2-2 17, Grause 3 3-5 9, L.King 3 1-3 7, White 1 0-0 2, Curtis 0 1-2 1, Mitchell 7 2-3 20, Caldwell 1 0-0 2, Schalch 0 1-2 1. Totals 22 10-16 59. PC: Harden 6 3-6 17, Myers 6 4-6 16, Cooper 5 3-5 16, Greene 3 0-0 6, Ferrell 4 0-0 8. Totals 24 10-17 63. Three-pointers: D 5 (Mitchell 4, K.King), PC 5 ( Cooper 3, Harden 2) Records: Pendleton County 7-20, Deming 14-12. FG: Deming 22-48 Pendleton 24-51 3 Pt: Deming 5-18 Pendleton 5-15
  20. Also worth noting was that Fleming was atrocious from the line, but SP couldn't take advantage, being somewhere around 30 percent from the field for the game and worse for the 4th quarter.
  21. Just out of memory (and could be wrong)... Owens 23, 11 rebounds Mason 14, 16 boards Anderson 9 Newsom 22, 12 boards Dugan 10 Gray 9
  22. Nice to see you apparently responded without actually reading the post because you completely proved my point from the first sentence. Never did I say anybody cares about West Union girls. I'm not going go over the whole thing again, but basically, the nights you get coverage of a 3-17 girls team against a non-local team, it's because that's all there was to choose from, not because the Ledger staff is sitting around saying "Hey, wouldn't it be funny if we gave the shaft to [insert team here]." The whole point of the post was that there weren't any other games in the area those nights, but it's always funny how some people will still find a way to complain that somehow these games are taking coverage away from their team, whether they're playing or not. Thanks for proving it for me.
  23. Not to single out mcpapa here, but one of the things that always makes me laugh when there is coverage of a game with minimal interest (which is putting it mildly in the case of Peebles/West Union girls) is that people don't consider the schedule of games that day. People act like every mediocre game that's covered is at the expense of a Mason County game or something. As if the writers at the Ledger are sitting there saying, "WOO-HOO! West Union girls AGAIN!" As for the night in question, it was going to be Peebles blowing out WU, Eastern or Georgetown blowing out non-local teams, or nothing at all. Sometimes the schedule plays out well and sometimes it doesn't. Unfortunately, this was a week where there wasn't much choice but to do three WU girls games, two of which were the only games between local teams and one of which was the only game in the area PERIOD. Combine those with Bracken/Scott boys on Tuesday and it's a pretty ugly group of games. Then Friday you end up with more good local games than you can cover. Unfortunately, that's just how it works sometimes. As for Brossart, not only are they not in the coverage area, but not even close. While it wouldn't be a bad idea IMO to run a final score to at least acknowledge the game (or for that matter the AP's list of finals from around the state) anything more for a non-local team seems a bit much. The All A finals are probably worthy of something regardless of who's in them but I don't see making any kind of special effort for Brossart. It's important to note that the Ledger obviously doesn't have the budget or staff to cover other teams from around the state like the Herald Leader or Courier Journal and doesn't pretend to. It's hard enough to keep up with the 20 or whatever local teams from OH and KY, and at some point, the call just has to be made that if a couple people in Maysville care that much about what Brossart (or whoever) did, they know where to find it.
