You're right. Everybody was picking Jackson City to be in the finals of the region 2 years ago. It was a stunning upset when Hazard got lucky to beat them in the finals. Everybody was also on the Powell bandwagon this past year, especially after their 0-3 start when they were outscored by 65 points. Everybody knew they were going to win the district and lose to the eventual regional champion.

I'm sure both teams will have good turnouts. I just meant the average fan attendance will be down. My whole crew will be there because we don't miss a game. The average fan, however, will probably miss because 1) They really don't care who wins because they think both teams are inferior to Warren Central and will be destroyed in the second round and 2)They would rather watch some good NCAA action.

Then maybe you should stop thinking. Coach Lively did a better coaching job this year at Powell than he did last year at Jackson City. Yes, he had a lot of seniors, but at the start of the season, nobody gave them a shot to even be in the regional tournament, not to mention win it. I agree that Coach Banks and Coach Stepp had good years, but they may have also had the 2 most talented teams in the region. Congrats Coach Lively. It's well deserved.

This will be the best game of the first round, and it will be played in front of the smallest crowd.

Haven't missed a game in 16 years... Not taking this year off either. I'll be in section 14.

It appears the pairings are set for next weeks Sweet Sixteen action. I, like most, are excited for the event and look forward to next week. It will be a great opportunity to see many teams I am not familiar with, as well as an opportunity to root for some old favorites. Help me out and tell me what to expect for your regional representative. Scout your regional winner, so I know what to expect next week. Consider these following questions (but not limited to them) before you post in the thread: 1. What do they do best? 2. What do they do worst? 3. What style of offense do they run? 4. What style of defense do they play? 5. Do they rely on the three or do they work it down low? 6. Do they play a lot of kids or is their bench thin? I am looking forward to seeing the great individual players, but this thread is about the team. Please help me out and handicap your team for us all. Feel free to add comments about your regional winning team that I may have left out with my example questions. Good luck to all schools that advanced and I look forward to another great tournament.

I'll take my chances with Knott in this one. However, I still think Hazard can play their JV and be playing in the championship.

I'm not real familiar with your region this year. I had Graves as my pick to win it, just because it seemed like a lot of teams were log jammed at the top of the region and not many people had Graves. Is it possible that any of these teams left can win it?

If Buckhorn plays like they did against PCC, noboby touches them. However, I think they've come back down on earth to join the rest of us. Still, they're a good team, and if they play with that spark, they'll be a very tough out. Breathitt will have to knock down some shots to pull this one out. I think they will and eek out a tight one, despite Buckhorn's large crowd (both their own and everybody else's fans). Breathitt by 5.

Any word on the transfer? With or without him, Holmes should have enough to get back to Rupp. Greg Rice is on a mission, been very impressed in his play the last couple of games. Any word on where Rice and Hill may be going to school?

This was a very enjoyable game to watch for 3 quarters. Coach Parrett had an excellent gameplan and has done an awesome job with the talent level that he inherited. Powell shot way too many 3s early and that's what gave Owsley the early lead and is why they hung in the game for so long. We all know 3 point shooting is not Powell's strong suit. They CANNOT come out in the regional tournament and do this or they will make an early exit.

I don't care what happens in the rest of the districts. If Hicks plays like he did against the Horn, Hazard will not lose in the region.

I really don't care who wins this one. I believe that we, as fans, are in a win win situation in this one. I go to every state tournament. I haven't missed a game since 1991. I'd love to see the talent of Holmes down there, and I'd love to see the cheering section of Catholic down there. They're the one private school I root for if they make it state. How many teams actually have practice for their cheering section? I really don't see how these 2 don't meet again in the regional final unless Newport Catholic can knock one of them off. If that happens, it's still an upset.

Are you 100% positive STRIKE3? I personally don't know, but I do know that if your post is true, then it should not be true. If our athletic association can rule on a player that has not played all year and be ruled upon come tourney time, then our Mr. Basketball should be awarded to a player that has been the best player in the state all year. If you're right, then it should not be called Mr. Basketball, it should be the Sr. Mr. Basketball.
