It appears the pairings are set for next weeks Sweet Sixteen action. I, like most, are excited for the event and look forward to next week. It will be a great opportunity to see many teams I am not familiar with, as well as an opportunity to root for some old favorites. Help me out and tell me what to expect for your regional representative. Scout your regional winner, so I know what to expect next week. I am looking forward to seeing the great individual players, but this thread is about the team. Please help me out and handicap your team for us all. I'll start first:

 

Holmes:

 

1)Very athletic and good at attacking the rim and getting points in the paint all night long. Duran Jefferson will slash to the basket and dish it to either Rice, Henderson, or Hill. Great ball handlers all around. Rice and Henderson can throw it down from anywhere around the basket.

 

2) Not very good with the outside shot. Most teams like to play zone against them which works sometimes but only if you have big kids. Holmes is very athletic so when they see the zone they will try to attack and look for an alley oop, because they have no real outside threat. Also, FT shooting can be poor at times.

 

3)They run more of a motion offense but once again look more for the drive and dish down low.

 

4) Defensively, they are very tough. Henderson and Hill are probably their two best defenders but Rice and Jefferson can hold their own too. Rice and Henderson can jump out of the gym and are shot blocking threats.

 

5) They look to work it down low with a triangle type offense between Jefferson, Rice, and Henderson. Hill can also play down low though and is probably their most all around player at 6'3.

 

6)Advantage of Holmes against many opponents is how deep their bench runs. Henley can play 8 and not lose a step. After that the bench falls off a little but not much. If Henley wants to press, he'll keep throwing waves of different players at you.

I have only seen Clark Co play twice, but aside from the obvious choice of Preston Knowles being unstoppable. They really impressed with their defense.

 

I know a couple kids stepped up and hit some big shots to be put them over the top against Scott and Mason, but Knowles is what makes the team go.

 

1. Defense is what I think they do best from what I have seen.

2. Shot selection depends on who is on the floor, they can drop it down to Tristan or just let Knowles create for himself or for others on the floor

3. Someone who knows Clark Co better than I can get more in detail with what offense they run. They enjoy running as much as anyone else, but they are really effective in a half court game and running the offense until someone gets open.

4. Man to Man defense, pressing at times, in your face, VERY physical. BUT not dirty.

5. Preston can drive and dish, Tristan can do his thing in the paint.

6. I don't know how deep they go on their bench, someone else can help me with that.

You did good.:thumb: Few things I will add.

1. agree...love our defense

2 Agree with what you said on this. Bennett, Stenzel and Hatton has proven that they can be a outside threat or drive to the basket.

 

3. Our offense depends on the team we are playing and how we match up..We will play to our strength and what the defense give us or what we can create. Could be going inside to Tristian like the fist half of the Mason game, but then inside out, for Preston, Bennett or Hatton. Preston is great at seeing the floor and open man, but also can create off the dribble.

5 We do both. We have Tristian Jones who is a beast inside and also have Bennett, Stenzel, Hatton and Preston that can bomb the 3.

6. We can go 10-12 deep easy, we have done this all year...

 

Bennett a junior, and Stenzel, a 8th grader is usually first ones to come off the bench. Both played key roles in GRC making the trip to rupp. Both are very good at the free throw line. Free throw shooting is the biggest improvement I can see in GRC from last year.

The thing about Holmes is that Hill was POY in the begining of the year. Now he's stepped back and let Henderson and Rice take over. No lie, everyone in NKY should agree that Austin Hill, Greg Rice, and Arrez Henderson are playing like the #1, #2, and #3 players in the whole area.
