Bennett a junior, and Stenzel, a 8th grader is usually first ones to come off the bench. Both played key roles in GRC making the trip to rupp. Both are very good at the free throw line. Free throw shooting is the biggest improvement I can see in GRC from last year.

Sounds like you and Tilghman are exactly the same...they are beasts underneath with their athletic ability and size...not the greatest of outside shooters but if you give them enough room they can knock down the occassional shot, but if you belly them they will drive right by you for an easy assist down low.

 

Tilghmans best player is Stefon Perry #44...he is an athletic 6'4" Forward...their other forward David Jones #35 is also 6'4" and both young men can jump out of the building. Their center is 6'6" #50 Isaac McClure a very good low post area...so take your pick on who you want to double team down low as all three are very good inside passers who look for one another.

 

Tilghman is very good offensively, but their forte' is their tight man-to man ball hawking pressure...they will press you from the time you step off the bus to the time you go take a shower and with their length they cause a whole lot of problems.

 

Sounds like they should match up well with each other...wish that I could have gotten off of work to get up there and see the game as it could very well be the best of the opening round.

The thing about Holmes is that Hill was POY in the begining of the year. Now he's stepped back and let Henderson and Rice take over. No lie, everyone in NKY should agree that Austin Hill, Greg Rice, and Arrez Henderson are playing like the #1, #2, and #3 players in the whole area.

 

Couldn't agree anymore. IMO Holmes has the top 3 players in the region in Hill, Rice, and Henderson. Jefferson has flat out done his job this year distributing the ball. As I've said all year, having his leadership and focus on the court would change this Holmes team tremendously and I was right.

Conventional wisdom seems to be to use a zone on Holmes and make them prove they can score from the outside, but we'll see what the Tornado comes up with.

13 Ty Profitt 6'3 point guard, likes right left crossover

34 Trey Smith 6'8 can step out and shoot the three as well

South will really get after you with a 2-2-1 full court press. They will drop back into a 2-3 zone and play it very aggressive up top. Their size and strength cause most teams nightmares in the half court. They will also play some 1-3-1 half court trap with a little 1-1-3 zone thrown in.

 

Offense is simple, mostly four out and one in. They post the player they feel has the mismatch most of the time. A few sets like a double high ball screen and some backdoor plays for Proffit and Hammonds. They basically get in spots and let their horses make plays.

 

Basically Profitt runs the show and sets the table for the others. South likes to shoot a lot of threes but at the same time they are constantly attacking the basket. The big three are great high school players and the others are terrific role players who are also intense and very strong.

 

That would be Bubba's take on the South Laurel Cardinals. 2007 13th region Champions.

Ill tell ya about Valley

They have great speed and guard play.

They arent big and strong

They like to run on offense

Pressure and Pressure on defense.

Their shooting really helps them.

I dont think they will go real deep with the level of competition they will be facing.

I see them maybe getting a win this year though, and they are young but they have a real nice team.

My Scott Co. Cardinals:

 

1. What they do best is keep coming at you. They have a lot of weapons -both offensively and defensively.

2. What they do worst is score in the post. They have some posts who can score on fast breaks and tip-ins, but back to the basket scores are few and far between.

3. They run a fast break type of offense. They have a few sets, but mainly they push the ball.

4. The defense starts with Jimmy Warren. He guards the PG full court with intense pressure. He's kind of like a copperhead on a fallen tree waiting for you to slip and make a mistake so he can strike - to quote an old buddy "He ain't a'feerd of nuttin." Sometimes they will trap in the full court, sometimes in the half court. Tough man to man D is what you should expect to see.

5. SC shoots quite a few threes, but can also drive to the basket.

6. The bench is an asset for these Cards. Phares, a 6'7 Soph is a solid post, Tyler Portwood is a deadly shooter - and has started several games, and Guard Jordan Adams has stepped up in the post season with some quality minutes.

 

Other Notes: The Cards have played a brutal schedule which should prepare them for the outstanding competition in the state tournament.

Matt Walls and Bud Mackey are the main scorers, but Jordan Lee alters a lot of shots and Cameron Hundley gets just about every loose ball (unless Warren beats him to it).

 

I hope the Cards bring their A game to Rupp. When they do it's fun to watch...
