  1. I personally believe that Mr. Basketball should be the best player in the state. I'm not even convinced that Mr. Walls is the best player on his team.
  2. Yes, that's what you deserve to be called. You had an excellent year, and wherever you end up, I'm sure you'll do well. I saw you play at Holmes last weekend, and you played a great game. It's a shame to see your season end so early, but it tends to happen if a team can focus on shutting down one player. If your early departure ends your run as a Mr. Basketball candidate, then it's a travesty. We've had at least a couple in the last couple of years that could not play on the same court with you. Good luck sir.
  3. This will be a dandy, especially on a neutral court. I think JBS has the most talent in the region, but they don't utilize it all. I look for Knott to hang close, especially if they can hit anything from the outside, and they could very easily pull the upset.
  4. It was another enjoyable game in the 14th region. Estill kept climbing back in it and threatening, but they could never get any closer than 4. They hit a 3 at the buzzer. That's why they only lost by 2. It was a physical game, and this always favors Powell. I thought it was well officiated for the most part. I like a physical game, and that's exactly what it was. The Denis kid did play very well tonight, and it's a good thing for the Pirates that he did. Both coaches had excellent gameplans. Tiller was not going to let Romans beat him, and Lively was not going to let Christopher and Berryman send his team home either. Christopher did have a good game, but he did most of his damage late when he was the only scorer left for the Engineers. I was very impressed with #4 from Estill. He has very nice moves is quite a smooth young player. His performance reminded me a lot of Drew Davidson's emergence this time last year, except this kid has a jumpshot. Both coaches handled themselves and their teams very well after the game and they are to be commended for that. Coach Tiller is quite the intimidating presence on the sidelines and, in fact, is quite scary sometimes. However, the way he handled his players as they fouled out one by one near the end of the game, he looked like a big teddy bear. I love it when you see a monster of man like this turn mushy. He seems to be one of those coaches that kids would run through a wall for. As for Powell and Coach Lively, congrats. The best motivator in the region is padding his resume once again with a return trip to the region and what should be his second district championship in 2 tries.
  5. Owsley keeps it close early but Powell pulls away and wins easily. The Owls already did all the damage they can do.
  6. Letcher's old field huh? Well, I know one guy that would probably take that field right now, since they don't even have one. The 14th is full of bad fields. Jenkins (I felt really close to Heaven when playing there), Jackson City, and the old Wolfe Co. field all hold their own as some of the worst fields in the state.
  7. It must be tournament time. Lee goes down to Owsley. PCC gets crushed by Buckhorn? Jackson outplays Breathitt for nearly 3 quarters. Jenkins almost shocks June Buchanon. I cannot wait to see what happens in Booneville tomorrow night. I expect a great game. If Estill and keep pace and hit their 3s, they'll win. If not and Romans dominates, Powell wins. I guess I better make plans to get there early. I have a feeling everybody is catching the fever about like I am, especially after I watched Buckhorn lay it on PCC tonight.
  8. This is a very tough decision for me. If you ask me for a player who I would want to build my team around, I take Justin Hicks. Can Hazard win without him right now? No! So it's easy, right? Well, Powell got crushed 3 games at the first of the year without Ryan Romans. Can they win without him. Absolutely No! I'm torn, but I think they are the final two. Stepp is a good high school player, and so is Zach Gay, but Romans and Hicks are in their own class in the 14th.
  9. What a game!!! Buckhorn played in your face man to man all night long, and PCC could not buy a shot. They got down big early, and then had to force too many outside shots to try and get back in it. I would love to see the final stats. I bet Gay had 20-25 rebounds. The Rice kid also played a heck of a game. He was really the only player that showed up the first 4 minutes for either team. Buckhorn came out and played with a fire and determination that was never matched by their opponent. This is going to be another fun regional tournament to watch. If the Horn can match tonight's effort, we have this year's Cinderella in the 14th. It was really fun and exciting to watch. I wanted to see big Al's reaction after the game, and he didn't disappoint. I know there are a lot of rumors swirling, and he handled himself with class, as usual. What a great coach and person, and if this was indeed his last game at PCC, I hope he does land back on his feet somewhere else in the 14th. On a side note, where were the PCC faithful tonight? There weren't as many there as I thought there would be? I hope they weren't resting up for the Hazard game. Congrats to Buckhorn.
  10. What everyone is failing to mention is how Scott Co. got the edge in officiating a few weeks ago.
  11. Really looking forward to seeing Miller for the first time this year. J.V game before?
  12. Will there be a problem finding a seat tomorrow? Really looking forward to Knowles and Walls matching up and CovCath cheering section. Is there a game at 5:30? How many does the gym seat?
  13. How much of a problem will it be to get in the doors tomorrow night? How many does the gym hold? Really looking for to watching Knowles and Walls two great guards.
  14. Has anyone seen robbie huff play for Brethitt's freshman team . He is one of the best shooting guards i have ever seen. This kid is for real.
  15. Man that channing fugate for Breathitt is awesome. He is a man child.
  16. I don't know where this post is coming from, but after reading a little about a few recent games, I had to comment on this. Let me know how you guys feel. I was reading about the closing minute of the Jackson City/Owsley Co. game the other night, and I saw where Jackson had a lead of 7 with 34 seconds left to play in the game. A player received a technical after whining about not getting a foul called. I know little about these 2 teams and nothing about this game (other than what I've read, I wasn't there), but a player receiving a technical with 30 seconds left in a close game seems a little drastic. Was he really that mouthy? It is possible that the player did deserve it, but I'm just tired of officials taking over a game late. I mean, does the official here feel like the player is really trying to show him up? Again, I'd love to know what the young man said. I don't like all the whining and crying I see today from high school athletes, but it does take place, and it happens the entire game. I'm sure that one possession was not the first time on this night that a player whined about a foul call, or lack thereof. I just want some consistency. What do you guys think? Anyone else have any incidents they'd like to share?
  17. You never know what might happen in a rivalry game, but I think the better team comes out the winner. JBS by double digits.
  18. I would guess that 97.3 would bring this game. Jackson City is off. I think the Riverside game was on there last night, and somebody said Breathitt's girls team was in Florida. That should pretty much eliminate all other competition from the air waves.
  19. No matter how bad a team Buckhorn sometimes has, and they've had some bad ones, they're never easy to beat at home. Considering Buckhorn has a decent squad this year, I think the Bobcats will have their hands full. I'm assuming a good atmosphere for the home team and a zone of some sort (the Bobcats cannot shoot) will keep this one real tight. Sounds like I think Buckhorn should win, huh? Not so fast my friend. I think Breathitt pulls it out. I believe better talent squeaks by in this one.
