I would agree that the majority do not do this. I disagree with leaving those that do, in place. Allowing poor performers to remain, reflects poorly on the entire pool. It's not the well called games that are remembered and commented on in forums like this, it is the misinterpretations of rules and blown calls that get pointed out and ridiculed. Your approach, keeping low performers in place to the detriment of the profession and the game, sounds much like the game plan that keeps under-performing bureaucrats entrenched in government jobs.

The freshman team at Highlands was pretty strong this year and the word is that the incoming Freshman will be even better. Because of this, I would guess that we will see the Birds very much in the 5a mix in a couple years. Maybe not next year, but in 2017, they will be competitive.

I will say that there are some who should not be out there. Certainly not all, as you imply my comment intended to say. In every job there are some who are just going through the motions, collecting a check and in all those instances, they should be weeded out. Do you disagree? Yeah, going down roads is sometimes a dangerous thing to do. To answer your question, Yes, I have officiated a sport at any level.

This is not just a State Finals issue. The officiating needs to be addressed for regular season and the playoffs as well. Some of these crews are just awful. I don't care if someone wants to play up the "they are doing it for the kids" card. If they are bad, get rid of them. And no, I have no desire to "get out there and do a better job" myself. I make no claim that I could do a better job. Very likely, I could not. Which is why I, unlike others, don't run out there and pretend that I can.

All State selections have been all about "you vote for mine, I'll vote for yours" for years, among the small handful of coaches that participate.

If the split is made, are you going to have 2 champions in every class? KY football is already watered down with 6 classes. Looking at the weekly poll standings when they are published, it is comical to see teams with losing records in the top ten in the state.

Have to agree that SK fans are a bit hard to take. By far the most obnoxious fan base I saw at Frosh games this season. Not all, but enough to give their fan base a bad reputation.

Once the Maroons got the momentum, it seems as if the Birds played too tentatively and could not take it back. Tough one to lose, but a nice turnaround for the Birds overall this season. Good luck next week PC!

That is what I thought. The same can be said in the mid 2000's when arguably, two of the best athletes in the school, Greg McGraw and Nick Simpson, were strictly hoops players yet the football team had a very good run of championship teams. Teddy Connoly and Jared Stewart also played hoops and soccer instead of football in that era and while they were both great athletes, the football team did just fine in their absence.

Did Draud and Neltner playing hoops have any impact on the success of the football team in those years?

Just how ready to play will the PC team be after eating a big Turkey Day dinner, getting up early Friday morning then enduring a 4+ hour bus ride? Their inner clocks and equilibrium may be just a tad off by the time the bus pulls into Fort Thomas. Even worse for those who may be susceptible to motion sickness or lethargy after long drives. Undefeated, beat "D1 Loaded" Trotwood Madison at Nippert on National television, defeated 2 other State Champions (Central and Lex Cath) along the way, rolled through the post season by a combined score of 219-40 (Including a 40-0 win against Cov Cath), culminating with a 28-7 pounding of Bowling Green in the Title Game.

Agreed. Why chance getting players hurt in games that are nearly predetermined? Of course the KHSAA would lose some gate money and the bleeding hearts will cry because we are not handing out playoff "participation trophies"...so, there's that to consider.

On the girls side, the final 4 was all Private schools. On the boys side, Privates were not as dominant but Cov Cath did win State. Is this a trend that will continue, or will the Private/Public divide become less of an issue in the future?

Birds jump out early and win by at least 21. Hopefully both teams stay injury free.

The Freshman players can choose to join the varsity for practice. Some have basketball or other commitments. In the past, in playoff blowouts, the baby Birds have actually gotten some playing time on special teams and in very rare situations, on offense and defense.
