The offenses were on fire tonight, but there was nothing on the defensive side of the ball for either team. After seeing this, I am putting odds on Highlands playing deeper into the playoffs than the Pioneers, this year.

Not as much distance between these two teams as some were hoping. Little 4a sized school having one of their worst seasons in years, against the local 6A Goliath. Good thing they don't allow slingshot on the field.

Only 2 of the NKY 6A are capable of beating the majority of the class. But those two are still not at an elite level and a State Title is likely not happening anytime soon for either.

Agreed. But once you get beyond the top 3-4 in any class, the drop off is considerable.

That is a bit of a defeatist attitude regarding the local Bigs. I would hope that with the number of bodies that these teams have to pull from, they could come up with enough athletes to compete down-state.

I agree that right now, some of the local big schools are very good and will have good success against the smaller area teams. But being able to beat up the little guys while consistently getting whipped by like sized opponents, will not get a team much respect statewide. And while teams like Ryle and Simon Kenton have had a short strech of quality teams, they have yet to prove that this is sustainable, long term. I am not saying that it is not, just saying that if things revert to historic norms, it is more likely that we will see the smaller schools climb back to the top of the mountain sooner rather than later.

I'd like to see the Colonels go to Columbus and win. They need to be prepared however. I remember when Highlands played up there years ago, Desales got some good old fashioned home cooking from the officiating crew late in the game.

Beechwood next year, Highlands either next year or the year after, NCC soon but not sure when exactly. NKY Big schools need to step up their games so they can be included in this speculation.

This may be a tough year for NKY, but someone will be the next to bring the big trophy home. Who will it be and when?
