CovCath fires up the buses and heads to Columbus, Ohio for an interstate battle with Columbus DeSales at Alumni Stadium. The Colonels will be looking for their first win in the series as they stand 0 - 5 all time against the Stallions. This game would seem to be an uphill climb for CovCath with CalPreps showing them to be a 10 point underdog to DeSales.

DeSales, who beat CovCath last year 28 - 7 in Park Hills, is undefeated at 4 - 0, ranked 13th overall in Ohio (per CalPreps), will have a solid home field advantage.

Can CovCath pull off the upset or will the Stallions remain perfect all-time against the Colonels?

Last year is last year and at this time last year, CovCath was 1-4 going into this game. Now the Colonels are 4-1 beating two of the three teams they lost to last year, so I really don't care what CalPreps says, as they don't realize the amount of growth these young men have made from last year to this year.

I just hope that St. Francis De Sales thinks it's the same CovCath team they beat last year 28-7.

Let go Colonels, make Kentucky proud and make it 3-0 vs O HI O!

The Colonles gave DeSales 21 pts off turn overs. I believe the stats were in Cov Cath favor. If the Colonels keep their composure this should be a good game

I agree Cov Cath is much better than last year.

There was a little bit of everything to be seen Friday night during the DeSales-Hartley game that many people called the unofficial championship game of the Central Catholic League.

A harvest full moon — and afterward a partial lunar eclipse — rose over the east grandstands.

Stallions students came dressed in superhero costumes and had numerous Silly String battles. Hawks students wore white from head to toe.

In the end, it was a whole lot of 260-pound Alonzo Booth and 210-pound Brian Asamoah pushing DeSales to a 31-24 victory over visiting Hartley at Alumni Stadium.

It was the second straight victory for the Stallions (4-0) in a series that was resumed three years ago. Just as importantly, there will be significant points for them in the Division III playoff standings.

Booth ran for 163 yards and one touchdown on 30 carries and Asamoah 88 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.

“It was just a hard-fought game and the guys persevered and found way,” Stallions coach Ryan Wiggins said. “We are built to run the ball and shortening the game to keep the ball out of their hands was a key part of the plan.”

Hartley had to walk away wondering what if after losing two fumbles and being penalized 10 times for 93 yards. Penalties nullified touchdown runs of 9 and 54 yards and runs of 35 and 70 yards.

The Hawks (2-2) kept hustling and made it 17-17 with 5:53 left to play on a 23-yard field goal by Mateo Agriesti. Fifty-three seconds later, though, Asamoah plunged over left guard, made a subtle cut to his right and ran 41 yards for a touchdown. He split two defensive backs waiting to make the tackle just outside the 20-yard line.

“It all started with the offensive line,’’ Asamoah said. “Those guys got a great push. Alonzo had a good kick-out block. Our running backs coach, Mike Delfino, taught me (how to split defenders). I got all my tricks from him.”

The game tilted for good when defensive lineman Luke Barber recovered a fumble at the Hartley 39-yard line three plays after the kickoff.

Asked what happened, Barber smiled and shook his head in wonder.

“All I know is that another lineman and me hit the running back, and the next thing I knew the ball was in my lap,” he said. “We played hard. We played physical. We just made a couple more plays.”

Booth made it 31-17 with 2:06 remaining with a 3-yard run over left guard. He ran for 9, 6 and 17 yards on the first three plays.

People kept stopping to talk with Booth and take pictures, and the big man seemed embarrassed by the attention.

“We prepped for them really hard,” he said. “Our line worked. It came down to who wanted it the most. When they (were keying on me) is knew I needed it for my team, and I wanted to give it to them.”

I'm hoping for a Colonels win and this would be a very big one if they do. Desales is good and even tougher on the road.

Not a DeSales fans but this might be one of their best teams in a long time.

I see them naming the score in this one.

I know they haven't lost, but are they really that good? Naming the score would put them on the level of the likes of Trinity or a GCL South school imo.

DeSales has a two headed attack at running back in Alonzo Booth (6'1" 245 pounds) and Brian Asamoah (6'2" 210 pounds). Both look to be big, physical running backs.

Big strong young men right there. Colonels better be ready to hit and wrap up. Arm tackles won't work with those two

Yes. Now take it as you may because I have only watched them once, so far. They are stupid good. Big, fast and they hit hard.

Sounds like they've got their work cut out for them.

I see them naming the score in this one.

A) I think SFD wins.

B) "Naming the score" is aggressive. It is just hard to score enough points to qualify for name your score when you are a predominant running team.

C) Those backs look like really thick young men, and man, that big boy looks like he'll be a problem for the back 7 to deal with when he gets to the 2nd and 3rd level.

D) SFD's schedule, to date, hasn't been that impressive, so it is somewhat tough to gauge exactly what they are.

E) I would predict something along the lines of SFD 27, CovCath 17.
