The KHSAA needs to quit playing politics with officials in the State Football Finals

Featured Replies

Only the best officials from each association each year should get a state final game. No rotations period. The games are too important to play politics with.

I disagree. If you get the same ones every year you will have nothing to keep calling for. Most of the associations have several that are good enough to work these games. Even the NFL rotates their guys in the super bowl and they mess up.every week?.

I wouldn't care how they do it, I want the best of the best in stripes at each division officiating the state championships.

Exactly, playing politics and rewarding less than our best to keep more officials happy.

From Wikipedia:

The NFL's highest-rated official at each position is selected to work the Super Bowl. This is determined by the league using an evaluation system to grade each official's calls during the year. However, only officials who have worked in the league for at least five seasons and have previously worked during the playoffs are eligible to officiate in a Super Bowl.[1]

I understand the Commish wants to give everyone a chance, I can appreciate that, but it is the same thing year after year only most mistakes aren't as big.

It needs to change and reward officials based on merit. Anything else runs down the whole officiating profession and that is a shame.

Privately all the good officials hate how the KHSAA does it but they are not allowed to speak out or they will be punished informally.

Heck there are some officials I wouldn't even let do a regular season game let alone semi final/ championship. Crazy idea would be to bring officials in from out of state. But there would be some issues with rules translating over.

Here's a novel idea! Rotate and or set term limits on commish/board members and especially the assigner.

The Commish does a good job but he needs to rethink this one, it isn't fair to anyone. Not the officials, and certainly not the teams.

Do you think it would be better to choose (or rotate) the best crews instead of the individual refs? The crew has worked together all season and knows each others strengths and weaknesses. A friend I work with is apart of a highly reputable crew that has been together for many years. He told me they put one from his crew in a title game refing while he and the rest of the crew were doing the chains. I really don't know how it works and I haven't had a chance to talk to him but it sounds to me like they break up these crews.

You seem to be a Tackett guy, but he isn't doing a good job if this situation has and is having an impact on the games.

I am a Tackett guy. He is a former official, I assume he believes what he is going is best but I think about everyone else disagrees with him.

IMO they all have been in power to long and it's time for new blood. Some one has to take over sooner or later might as well be sooner. If everyone is fighting against you and in your words you say a lot of people disagree, maybe they are right and it's time to ride off into the sunset.

You are out of your league on this one.
