Russell has got to stop giving up early points. You can do that against Greenup and West Carter but as the year goes on and they face a road game at a much improved East Carter, a home with Simon Kenton , and roadies with Mason and Raceland they might not be so lucky. They gotta get some stops on defense in the 1st Quarter. They also have to kick a few through the uprights. Tyler Jones is just a monster. MONSTER. Fantastic player. Apparently someone needed some help. They apparently don't watch a lot of ESPN because "Team A is Team A" is an often used sports cliche'. Dennis Greene eloquently stated such a cliche's about the Bears last year:

Russell is Russell. I don't know how Boyd's passing game is, but Russell's weakness remains the secondary. That said as the game with Greenup wore on adjustments were made by the staff and by the end of the game the secondary looked much better. I full expect Russell's secondary to stop being a question mark by Week 4. That's just how good Russell's staff is. That said the game is @Boyd and I know a nice family involved with the BC program so I expect it to be good game with Russell pulling away in the 4th Quarter but Boyd having nothing to hang their heads about. I confirmed first hand today that Bret Denton is healthy and looking forward to the bye week. He showed no signs of injury while walking off with co-MVP honors at Raceland Christian's cornhole tournament.

Great win tonight for the Rams. :ylsuper: From the sound of it Ashland really got their act together in the 4th quarter and almost pulled it off but tonight was SECOND year in a row the Rams painted Putnam orange! :fight: As I drove home from the Hank tonight listening to the Raceland game on the radio I couldn't help but think that Russell better get it's kicking game together. If it comes down field goals this October Raceland has the edge. And Raceland did something the Devils couldn't last year- kick it with the game on the line in Putnam and win. I have a very close friend who lives in Canton, Ohio and is a Youth Minister to kids who mostly live in the Perry school district. They are completely insane for football there. Just down the road in Massilon they are even more insane. Anyone that wants ot know the difference between Kentucky and Ohio need only watch the documentary "Go Tigers!" I graduated high school from Raceland which is about as football crazy small school as you can get in NE Ky and the fanatics at Raceland don't even come close to those guys in Ohio. I have a Brother-in-law who is an Ironton grad and just across the river from those of us in the Ashland Area is a school that is even more football nuts then we can fathom and downtown Russell sits a mere few hundred yards away. Ram is right- the culture of football is extremely different. They start tackle JFL at age 6 and have two-a-days for third graders. For several weeks in August they practice elementary school kids 6 days a week for at least 3 hours a day until school starts. I am not "in" on the JFL scene around here but that seems far too excessive for 2nd and 3rd graders but to Ohioians it seems perfectly normal. Like I alluded to in the Lawrence/Coal Grove predictions with these Ohio schools you never know. They can go 2-7 in Ohio and cross the river for one game and beat a good Kentucky school or completey ramshackle a West Virginia school. It's just a different culture and attitude towards football. But, I while I love football, I am not sure that type of culture and fanaticism is always a good thing.

I have a friend who Coaches in the JFL over in Coal Grove and he is not overly impressed with what little he has seen of the Hornets this season. But, they are an Ohio school so you never know. I will definitely be pulling for LCHS and I predict that they win. Dawgs 14 Hornets 7
