I agree with Wireman. How many regional championships did Marcum win? Weren't they in the Sweet 16 as recently as 2015 or am I mistaken? Being from the Keith era, Marcum seemed to really embrace that history and try to let his players know the tradition that has been laid before they were even born. I liked that he brought Bobby Keith to the bench a few years ago at the State Tourney. He seemed to do a great job. That's just an outsiders perspective.

How can a region impose a ban on a team?

One of the shows on ESPN, Outside the Lines or E:60, did a story on the use of drones in Texas High School Football. (I believe it was last fall when it aired). Some of the schools there were using them to film practice and games. As a result of a few schools doing it, the use of them was spreading. It was an interesting story to watch.

Does anybody have specific $ amounts that some schools charge? Is the discussion about paying money to play a sport or is it paying for things like spirit packs that players receive? I have heard of some schools charging a fee of say $50 to play. That fee covers every sport. If you play football, basketball, & baseball then that $50 is a onetime fee that covers all sports that you play. That does exclude sweats or anything extra. I assume there are schools that charge a certain amount to play football, another amount for basketball, and another amount for baseball. Do most schools have players pay for their own spirit packs (sweatshirt, t-shirt, shorts etc)?

If the kid from Perry Central last year can be ruled eligible after moving from Sheldon Clark to Perry Co., after school began because his coach got the head coaching job there, then this kid should have no trouble being eligible. If you look at other threads, there are supposedly kids coming from everywhere to attend Cordia High School. I think some people will want to say this isn't fair, simply because its Scott Co. and they are a high profile program.

Does Cordia play tomorrow at KBA? I would like to see them in action..

Why would the administration have mailed it in if it were Bob Eades? I think it would be good for Bourbon. He's not trying to make a name for himself, he's not using it as a stepping stone. I don't think Eades would be a bad choice at all. He certainly knows the game. If the age factor is an excuse, do you think an up and coming young coach would stay at Bourbon more than 3 years? They need some stability. This is just an outsiders perspective.

Rumor is, and once again just rumor, that this was done so Terence Brooks would come and coach, possibly already been offered the job. Once again that is hear say and I am proclaiming it as hear say. He has not had the success perhaps he thought he would at Berea and he still works in Paris. Paris improved as the season went on. Probably one of the youngest lineups in the state and nearly beat Clark in the district. I don't think the coach would voluntarily leave with what's coming through there.

I agree that it is not a true class "A" tourney. Bishop Brossart is 2A in football. They win the 10th every year. As Mustsang mentioned a school like Knott who is 3A in football, is going to be loaded next year. Doesn't New Cath play 2A football as well? Some might argue that it might not make a difference but it does. They should rename the tournament. Take out the name All "A". If schools with larger numbers are allowed to participate then rename it something that is more suitable for the make-up of the tourney. What that would be I don't know.

Paris was lead in scoring by Koebe Garrard with 35 and Cameron Downey with 30 pts.

If I were those three I would never vote for it. They have a better shot of making the region with a blind draw..

The Paris freshmen beat Harrison's freshmen by 29 on Saturday and beat Bourbon's freshmen by 40 on Saturday also.

Harry Doyle hit it on the head. What is best for the program? In about 2 years Paris will field a strong team. It is about building the program back. It doesn't matter what "Joe" on the street thinks about it, the only decision that matters is what the coach thinks is in the best interest of his program. Coach Washington has done a great job with his team this year and he is taking the right steps to get the program back to where it needs to be. Their numbers are up and they'll have even more out next year. Paris beat Bourbon earlier in the year in a 9th grade or JV game (Can't remember which it was). Someone mentioned the basketball thing above? Last year Paris 8th graders played the majority of the minutes in both freshmen basketball games and beat Bourbon twice (I know this isn't the basketball thread so sorry about that). I don't think it is that Paris fears Bourbon Co., it is what the coach thinks is best for his team. Good luck Coach Washington and the Hounds!!

If the 8th grader attends a school that is not a feeder school for the high school he is lifting with, then I think that is not allowed. If something very unfortunate were to happen and the kid was hurt lifting, then he would not be covered under the insurance. Like Ram mentioned that could be considered a benefit, that is why I say this. True a kid not in 9th grade can go to the high school when he is promoted to 9th grade however while he is in 8th grade I do believe working out with a high school not in his district would not be allowed. That is the way I interpret it, but I could be wrong so I am not stating this as fact.

Even if it is a job transfer or retirement, the question will be why did they just now decide to move to Perry Co.? The answer: the coach at Sheldon Clark got the job there and he wants to play for him. The coach even commented that the kid has enrolled so is the coach taking the player or is the player following the coach? For the record it doesn't matter to me where the kid plays, I have no vested interest in Sheldon Clark or Perry Co. I just want to see how this plays out with the transfer rule. It seems that some kids are ruled elgible and others are ruled ineligible. What happened to the days when a coach took a job at a school and he was required to coach the kids at that school instead of bringing in other kids. To me it is an injustice to the kids who are already in the program and who have put in the time.

Why did the kid transfer? Obviously to play for the coach.. KHSAA handbook states in bylaw 6 that a student cannot transfer for athletic purposes only. I would say this is for athletic purposes only. Some adults should do this kid a favor and tell him to stay at Sheldon Clark rather than risk a year of eligibility. Wasn't a kid at Scott Co ruled ineligible a few years ago after transferring from Rose Hill (not Dakota, but the other kid)?

The hefty sum we can all assume he is getting would have to come from the teacher/administrator or whatever position. The coaching stipend would have to be the same for the boys and girls because of Title IX. The boosters can't go out and raise money to pay him extra to coach because I am pretty sure that violates the Title IX rules also.

Why do they need to merge? There is no need. There are plenty of people out there that do not want a merge. The only time anyone talks about a merge is when they talk about sports. There is more to high school than sports. If they ever do merge, it will not be within the next 10 years....

The talent is not there. There is some good young talent in Paris Middle... For the most part Paris has been more competitive this year than in the past, but there have been a few games that they have looked horrible.

They did not play with the same intensity as they did Montgomery. Take nothing away from Bracken though, Bracken has a nice ball club. Overall though Paris is playing better than they have in the past, just last night they played very low key...
