You could rob the bank at Sandy Hook with no problem this weekend, but you wouldn't find any money! It is in the wallets and purses of the Elliott County faithful in Lexington...they have been planning this party for a long time now and I figure the KHSAA and the city of Lexington will be the ones doing the taking.

East Carter basketball will be fine! They will continue to win around 20 games per year and always be in the hunt for the district championship. By seasons end, they were the second best team in the region. Remember they outplayed Elliott in every aspect of the district contest except for free throws attempted and free throws made. I hated to see the season end as they were continually improving. Oh, what might have been had they not lost twice to Morgan County at home...once in the gym and once in an office? Not many of the "what have you done for me lately" generation understands the level of domination that East Carter has had in the history of the 62nd district.

What if the tie-breaker says "point differential between the two teams that are tied?" In this case there are three teams tied. Would that force them to automatically proceed to the third tie breaker which is something to do with regular season records and tournament games???

Point differential between tied teams in the 62nd...all with 2-4 records counting a loss by East at Elliott. East beat West by 11 West beats East by 4 West beats Morgan by 15 Morgan beats West by 4 East beats Morgan by 9 Morgan beats East by 9 That would leave East with a +7 overall. That would leave Morgan with a -11 overall. That would leave West with a +4 overall. If that is the way it is done...then East is #2 seed, West #3, and Morgan #4. If three tied teams makes them use the winning percentage of regular season games...then we will have to wait awhile to see.

What happened to Logan and his recruitment to Eastern Kentucky University? I thought he would sign with the EKU. Didn't he take a visit to Richmond this weekend? If Georgetown is getting Logan...they are definitely getting someone who should be playing at a higher level. But Georgetown has a history of getting players like that. Good luck to both.

Why do we still play sports in Kentucky when school is cancelled do to a weather delay? School is cancelled because of the silly way that Kentucky funds public education. You get money based on the number of kids that are at school each day not on the number of students enrolled. If the buses don't run on all the roads and your attendance drops below 90% then you lose tons of money! The games are also played because of financial consideration. A high school sports program depends on gate receipts to pay the bills. No game...no money...simple as that. Those that can make it to the game assume the risk. You also have a contract between the two teams to play the game with financial considerations involved for forfeits. You can always tack the day missed from school at the end of the calendar but you can't always find an agreeable make-up date. Most games that are played on "snow days" are on the ones where most people living in the world of asphalt are wondering why school was cancelled to begin with. Strange enough, sometimes the crowds are better on snow days because mom and dad can't wait to get the kids out of the house!

Any stats on the East Carter game?

West Carter over Morgan Co. Did not get a score. Listened to 102.3 postgame for over 5 minutes and did not hear the score...just the result. Gave up on it.

But was I right in my post where I said seed 2,3,and 4 are still a possibility for West? Here's a good one for you NETS. What if East beats West and Morgan and West split?

Isn't 2nd, 3rd, and 4th still up for grabs? Couldn't West lose to East and Morgan and still finish 4th?

When was the last time the 16th region had a top 5 boys team (Elliott)and a top 5 girls team (Rowan) in the rankings at the same time? Will ask same question on boys forum as well.

West Carter is very impressive just based on their effort. Coach Webb and staff are getting every ounce out of the talent they have. That must be very satisfying to them as coaches! I don't really know how they could improve. It seems like everyone of their guys are playing full tilt. They are certainly an example of how hard work pays off because just from the looks of the teams one would expect East Carter to have won. East has plenty of room to improve. It will be interesting to see how future matchups between the Carter County schools play out.

This was a 16 team tournament. 2 teams finished 0 and 3. 6 teams finished 1 and 2. 3 teams finish 2 and 2. 4 teams finish 3 and 1. 1 team finishes 4-0. Elliott finished 3-1. Is that tied for 2nd? Is it 9th? Is it 7th? Is it consulation champions? Is it the luck of the draw? Could they have gone 4-0with a different 1st round opponent? Could they have gone 0 and 3 with a different first round opponent? Oh the questions! None of them really matter. I think that going to that tournament and finishing 3 and 1 is darn good and that would go for any team in our state. They represented Kentucky wonderfully and I for one pat them on the back...that is if I can find a spot that hasn't already been stabbed by fellow Kentuckians.

Will all you scheduling masterminds allow the bigboy to weigh in on this strange infatuation with the basketball schedule of a rural eastern kentucky high school basketball team? Keep in mind that I don't have a dog in this hunt but that hasn't stopped many of you from contributing so here goes. I certainly can't speak for the fine folks from Elliott County but this whole questioning of the strength of their schedule must seem absurd to them. Elliott County has basically been playing the same teams in basketball for decades. This year is their "100 year flood" type of team and they have been adjusting their schedule to showcase their talent. It appears to me that over the last four years they have gone from playing the same teams they have always played at Elliott to playing their required games in district and conference play plus several tough teams that they have only scheduled to test the metal of this fine team...up to and including the defending state champions of their own state plus the nearest neighboring state of West Virginia...lest we forget they are also in what many folks believe is one of the best high school tournaments in the country at Myrtle Beach. I may be wrong but from a distance this reminds me of when a new guy moves into a school and all the girls are sweet on him and oh how the jealous boys that have been there all along begin to talk and nit-pick in a very childish fashion. Elliott seems to be getting all the love. I think many of the state powers are just a little jealous when they get no love. People need to find something to try and discredit the new kid in town so they mean mouth his schedule...which I would think is the toughest in school history. The toughest team in Elliott County High School history is playing the toughest schedule in Elliott County High School history. Why should they be asked to do more?

The comment on Elliott being a "far better school system" than Carter County is certainly an interesting opinion. Just using what the state uses...test results...I can report that neither system should be running around tooting their own horn, but for the record: Elliott County District Elementaries ranked 168 out of 175 while Carter County District Elementaries ranked 121 out of 175. The High Schools were much closer with East Carter being 194 out of 236 and Elliott County being 196 out of 236. Those are just the facts and not any opinion. Draw your own conclusions.

Multiple wrecks/fender benders in the Carter County area. The roads are slick and all bridges and overpasses are horribly slick. Some people heading to the game have been in accidents including a local radio personality that was heading to do the game. He is ok but was not going to be able to do the game had it been played. The East Carter bus was heading out of Grayson but encountered slick roads with numerous accidents and had to turn around and come back. A good move for sure. No ballgame is worth the injury to anyone headed to that game.

I have noticed that Coach Baker has the Raiders playing very deliberate on the offensive end. At Morgan County the Raiders passed and passed the ball on offense almost as if they were not going to shoot it until their big boys had at least touched the ball. I thought they could have beaten Morgan County much worse if they would have run and gunned...but to his credit Baker probably realizes that they need to play a style that will give them the best shot at beating Elliott. That is through hard nosed defense and a patient half court set. Afterall anybody that wants to run with Elliott is foolish don't you think? I think Elliott is awesome but I don't know how they could really improve that much. They actually have a much greater chance of getting worse than getting better if someone gets hurt. East on the other hand is a pretty good team with lots of room for improvement. But you can't simulate playing Elliott County except by playing Elliott County. So tonight I think East will be very uncomfortable with the speed of the game and the guard play of Elliott will win out. East will continue to improve because of Elliott. Who knows what could happen come tournament time. It is tough to beat a good team 4 times in a year...that is unless you are much better. Elliott may just be that much better.

I quit listening with East up by 19 in the 3rd quarter when East put in several subs. I thought the game was over at that point. Sorry I turned it off now...sounds like it got exciting.

Right guy for the job could have been had several years ago! I guess it's better late than never.

From an outsiders point of view that has zero, zilch, natta thing to do with football in Johnson County I find it interesting to say the least that the folks from the County school claim to be responsible for Paintsville's rich football history. I would say that Paintsville is responsible for the rise of Johnson Central! They finally got tired of getty their hind-end handed to them in most every facet of education and athletics. Johnson Central got tired of being the school that should and turned into the school that is. Little old Paintsville has to get some credit for that rather than the other way around. Why was the county losing kids to the city? Supply and demand. The supply has always been in Johnson County. The demand used to be at the small city school but big brother got tired of being embarassed and is now doing what it could have and should have been doing all along...getting serious about winning in the class and on the field. Just a bigboy's opinion.

East was up 17-16 with about 4 minutes to go and could have gone for a 30 yard field goal by their excellent kicker. I wander why they went for it on 4th down rather than kick? It could have put them up 20-16 and even with the quick score by Rowan they would have been down 22-20 with 3 minutes to get into field goal range again? Hindsight being 20/20 kind of thing I guess. I thought East really was in position to shock the area tonight but let it get away. The last two weeks has seen East take a 30 point lead late into the game against West Carter to hold on for a 30-20 win. Tonight is was a 17-0 lead late in the game to see Rowan roll off 22 straight.

I have watched Barnhill from East outplay Knipp from Elliott on more than one occassion.
