Trinity will be better than many think. I agree Sewell is tops in the 7th but I would go as far to say the top player in Louisville and top five in the state. He just needs to play within himself and not try to do it all. Eply will be big time for Trinity this year he is a very strong kid that plays hard on both ends. I believe the point guard position will actually be better than last year; Corbett takes care of the ball and makes better decisions with the ball and is a tenatious defender. He won't look to shoot first, he will see the open player and get the ball to them. As long as they don't get into foul trouble, they will be tough for anyone to beat.

Morehead just got a commitment from 2010 PG Kevin Gray from Columbus, Ohio. So Morehead probably isn't an option, and I actually don't think an offer was on the table there. Also, since Chad Jackson turned down EKU, they now offered that scholarship to Elijah. I'm suprised they are offering another point guard since they already have a commitment from a 2010 point guard that played at Mountain State Academy last year. Elijah will play somewhere, probably DII or small DI. Anywhere he goes and gets a free education and continues his dream is great. I wish the best for him.

Walsh University will be Division 2 next year. They have a great program. 2005 National Champions 2006 Elite Eight 2007 Sweet Sixteen 2008 Sweet Sixteen. 27-4 last year. Weems the new Graduate Assistant for KY just graduated from Walsh U.and was an All-American player there. Congratulations to Flannery

I can tell that you coach or help coach high school basketball by the comments you make. You apparently have not been around AAU basketball, you have never played AAU basketball, don't have a kid that has ever played AAU basketball nor have you ever coached AAU basketball. Your comments are stereotypical of some of the trash that pertain to unique instances. Overall AAU basketball is great for the kids that participate. Unlike high school coaches that get paid to do what they do (I will admit that it is not much at times) AAU coaches do not get paid for their effort. The majority of the coaches have the best interest for the kids and dedicate many many hours to practicing and traveling with the team. Actually, I would say most of the coaches don't even have a kid on the team. AAU basketball starts out in the third grade and goes up through the summer before their senior year. From third grade to eighth grade they start playing in the fall and finish at the end of July. Once a kid get to the 15U-17U levels they only play April, May and July. I guess you would rather see these kids sitting at home playing with their Play Station III. AAU basketball gives kids the opportunity to play against the top competition at their age level across the state and nation sometimes. You can't get that at the local YMCA league. Most teams practice and play dozens and sometimes up to 100 games in a season. AAU basketball is one of the reasons there is so much parity at the college level now. Kids get to play year-round. A comment like "AAU in general is not good for the game of basketball" shows your lack of knowledge or experience with AAU sports. What you've stated above also happens in high school basketball. It just depends who is coaching the team. I've seen high school basketball teams exactly like you described above. If a kid learns bad habits, it's up to the high school coach to change his/her way of play. I would much rather see a kid playing ball during their off time than sitting around doing nothing or getting into something they shouldn't be getting into. I've seen a lot of AAU games and no matter how many games they play in a weekend, if they are a competive team they always play hard. They may be wore out but they don't give up and quit playing. That's great! Coleman is too good a player to stop playing basketball. I'm sure he is doing well in football because he is a good athelete. From what someone posted earlier, I thought he may not be coming back to the court. I'm glad the previous poster's possible assumption was incorrect.

I had heard that Coleman was playing football; what made him decide to do that his senior year in high school? He was a very good player in middle school but had not played since. Do you think that there is a possibility that he will not return to basketball?

I don't see Nichols playing this year. I would think that he would continue working on his strength and not taking the chance of getting injured playing basketball. He's got a big time Division 1 scholarship to play football at Stanford, he has nothing to gain by playing basketball. He may suprise me and play this winter, if he does good luck to him. He is a great kid.

Former Corbin Redhound coach Billy Hicks will bring his top-rated Scott County Cardinals down along with local teams from Corbin High School, South Laurel High School, Barbourville High School and Knox Central High School. Schools from Warren Central, Fern Creek, Lafayette, Middlesboro, Rockcastle County, Wayne County, Knott Central, Boyle County, Leslie County and June Buchanan will also participate in the one-day event. “We’re very excited,” Synergetic Solutions LLC. promoter Phil Smith said. “We are very happy to be able to put this event on. "Faulter", "did not do what was expected of them", you've got to be kidding, they lose their senior leader who was leading the team in scoring and rebounds the game before the Regional Finals and get beat by two freethrows on a questionable last second call to go to Rupp! How did Team KY end up doing in the Adidas Three Stripes tournament out west?

I'll be suprised if Purvis plays at GRC from what I've been hearing "thru-the-grapevine". This may be step one of the process.

You've got to be kidding. They lost Riley (9th Region Player of the Year), Dom Johnson and Brandon Housley. Two started and one was the first one off the bench.

The last team that I know did not have to pay anything, ie. hotel, uni's, shoes, transportation etc was the KY Patriots when they played for the Adidas Ohio Basketball club. No-one in KY has a full sponsorship from Adidas, Nike, Reebok etc. Eddie Ford had a sponsorship with Nike but he does not have it anymore. Even when he had it he charged the kids 2,000 to play on that team. I know some had to pay 2,000, some had to pay 1,500, some had to pay 1,000 some 500 and some were free. It just depended how good you were and how bad he wanted you on the team.

I would imagine they are already on someone else's roster for either Orlando or Vegas. If not, it's too late. Those events start next week.

AAU is where the majority of the players get coaches attention. Not playing on a good team and attending the big tournaments dramatically decrease the looks from college coaches. Getting into the platinum/Gold brackets and going deep in the tournaments just increase the looks the players will get. Also being on the teams with the so called "Elite" players brings the coaches to those games first. Since the NCAA is not allowing college coaches attend tournaments in April and May, the month of July is crucial! Playing with a good AAU team and attending NCAA Certified tournaments like the Adids "It Takes 5ive", the Hoopfest, Harley Davidison Hoop Group Classic, Adidas "Mid-summer Classic, and Vegas or Orlando gets these boys a ton of looks. For those that are performing well, they will get offers and invites during the month of July and August and eary fall. The Senior to-be division 17U is the most important group because it's their last year to be seen by the hundreds of coaches that attend these events. I talk to a-lot of coaches and this is where they see the players and do most of their evaluating. These events have the D-1, D-1 Mid-Major, D-2 and top NAIA program coaches in attendance. From what I've seen, there are only two KY programs that consistently put their team or teams in these venues, that's Shinging Star Sports and Derek Smith Allstars. I will guaranty a "higher percentage" of the players that play with these two organizations will play at the next level for free, when compared to the players that don't play for them. Now there are other teams that may attend these events, but as far as consistency from year to year, these are the two KY organizations that are usually there. The elite players are already on the coaches "radars" the one's that really benefit from these events are the very good players that are not considered "elite" or major D-1 material. Most of the time if you see college coaches at a high school event, it's because they already have a player that they are interested in and they came to specifically watch that player. Even at a huge tournament like the "King of the Bluegrass", LIT or the event at Marshall Co. you don't see hundreds of coaches there evaluating and recruiting. JMO

Don't agree, if you look at his blog, he talks about kids all over the state, east, west, north, south and central. Not knocking you but, you have been doing a pretty good job reporting on the same group of kids from NKY. Glad to hear about them, keep the updates coming!
