gold sunrise Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Has anyone heard about Darryl Hicks possible transfer to North Oldham this coming school year? And playing for NO Oldham. Yes I have, heard this about 2 weeks ago.
Log Mountain Boy Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Kind of a surprise. You would think that Shelby Co. is a better program than N. Oldham. If he was going to transfer you would think he'd go to one of the top programs in the state.
tdouth Posted July 24, 2009 Author Posted July 24, 2009 Shelby is loaded this year. Nearly all returning starters. And yes Shelby seems to have the team to make some noise. Also playing in the King of Bluegrass. And favorites to win 8th region. The rumor I heard was that Hicks played in some AAU games and no coaches from Shelby attended. And he was upset and possible No Oldham coaches attended and perhaps talked him into the transfer. And he would actually be living with a coach on No Oldhams staff.
sweet16 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 . And he would actually be living with a coach on No Oldhams staff. Maybe tough for him to be eligible if that is the case.
Log Mountain Boy Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Maybe tough for him to be eligible if that is the case. That seems like a bit of a rumor. Players don't always pan out, but he is a very impressive prospect!

Hicks' AAU coach with The Ville has two kids that attended North Oldham and I saw him coaching North Oldham at Georgetown College' team camp this summer. So, there's your connection.

southernkyhoops Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I heard he will be his legal guardian and its a done deal. He played with the Ville alot longer than he played for Shelby County. The guy from the Ville is loaded and his son is on the same team. It was a done deal last year. Middle school kids are not governed by KHSAA rules, it goes on all of the time. You folks have got to get out to some AAU tournaments and see what goes on, especially at the 14/u level. It's alot worse most places than it is in Kentucky.
Big Blue Mom Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 I think you mean his academic guardian not his legal guardian. Hick's parents are not going to sign over legal gaurdainship to the coach.
Babb45 Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 (edited) They are governed by KHSAA if they have played Varsity and he has!! Edited July 25, 2009 by Ram Rule 13
Ram Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 They are governed by KHSAA if they have played Varsity and he has!! Not unless they are in 9th grade and played in a varsity contest. That is when the clock begins.
fullcourt Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Not unless they are in 9th grade and played in a varsity contest. That is when the clock begins. You are exactly correct!
