Sorry to say but this is a done deal. This goes back to last year when the season was over. It has been said that Hicks was at NO playing pickup games during Spring Break. Be for real, this is not about him wanting a better education to go to Duke. This is about nothing more than a dad and AAU Coach. It appears that he will be attending NO for 2 years and his dad and AAU coach are already prepairing for him to go to Oak Hill his last 2 years.

Sad story but a true one.

I just wonder what the KID really wants to do.

I'm hearing more and more confirmations from my friends in Shelby County that academics was EXACTLY what this was all about. Probably didn't hurt that North looks to be a region contender for the next 3-4 years at least, but the word is that the only thing that was a given in all this was that Hicks would NOT be attending Shelby County HS this year but would be going to a school with a better academic reputation. Supposedly it all came down to North Oldham and another nearby private high school, both of which are ranked near the top in KY academics.

Not that any of our speculation really means anything. We've all seen so many shady situations that it's hard for the general public to be anything but cynical every time a talented youngster changes schools...but I also think it's fair to say that not every transfer is has sinister underpinnings... This may well be such a case.

It also doesn't hurt that his AAU coach is the JV coach at North Oldham.

So, did the parents move?

If this is really about academics and not basketball, then why didn't his sister transfer either? She is in the 10th grade at Shelby County. Its about basketball which is ok, but if it was really about academics im sure his sister would have went to North as well.

This is NOT CORRECT. His AAU coach is NOT on the staff at North Oldham HS.

According to my sources in Shelby County, Darryl is apparently quite the brain.

I was told by a reliable source he coached either the JV or freshmen team this summer for N. Oldham. And has a son who played on the team. Is that incorrect?

My understanding is that he was coaching the freshman/JV at a team camp but he is not the official coach. His son will be a freshman at NO.

He coached their middle school team at the GC team camp which had his younger son (who will be a 7th grader on it) in at least one game as I witnessed North Oldham vs. Scott County. Doubt he is officially on staff (at least not the high school staff) because I believe he plans on doing The Ville again and wouldn't be able to do so as by KHSAA rules you can't coach summer ball with a kid that was on your HS team.

But, he is obviously the main (if not only) reason Hicks is specifically at North Oldham. If Levitch's kids were at Oldham County or South Oldham or anywhere else, I am pretty sure that's where Hicks would be as well.
