  1. I think GC has a better chance than what most think. GC runs a similar offense as Johnson Central and Mason Co. never figured out how to stop them when they were in the same district. The offense isn't what it may seem. People think it's a ball control offense but there are just as many big plays in this offense as any. Im not going to compare GC with JC other than they are similar. If it's a shoot out I think GC stands a better chance and I think it will be because I don't think either team will be able to stop the other.
  2. I don't want to BASH Coach Cobb and I know it sounds that way. He had a good run there but that team and that community don't owe him anything. The fact is that he walked out and left those kids. I am one that believes high school sports are about the kids! A Coach owes it to his kids to be there no matter what the circumstances. If a Coach truely loves his kids then he will Coach them through the thick and thin. Coach Cobb no matter what the reason should not have left his kids when he did. He left them high and dry. I agree with you that Coach Lucas should be the head coach. All I am saying is that no one owes anything to Coach Cobb. He walked out on a group a kids and coaches that are doing without him.
  3. I am sorry to tell you this but no Coach or Player owes anything to Coach Cobb. Correct me if I'm wrong but Coach Cobb walked out on these kids days before the season started. Coach Cobb quit on those kids and that community and that isn't right. Coach Cobb walked out on his kids and his coaching staff. All the credit goes to the kids and their coach's! You don't walk out on kids and a community and expect them to owe a former Coach who quit the program. Congrats to the kids and the Coaching staff at Somerset! They owe it to their selves and not a former Coach who walked out on them.
  4. This a huge win for the Tomcats tonight and it sounds like they are playing good ball right now. My only concern is that Ashland fans are talking about Highlands and the playoffs before district play has even began. Ashland is a talented team that has the ability to win this district but let's not forget about Woodford and Johnson Central! Woodford is talented and Johnson Central has had Ashlands number the past few years. The Tomcats are good but they or no one else is good enough to look over anyone in this district.
  5. The Vikings were tough tonight. Both teams took it to each other pretty well. No arguments on who is the most improved team around the area is. Rowan is turning the corner and will make some noise come playoff time
  6. Congrats to Garrard. I really thought the Vikings would win this one. Coach Brown has this team moving in the right direction and they will improve
  7. Great game Vikings. Thats the team we have been waiting to see
  8. This was a defensive battle to say the least. Neither team hit the ball well. Rowan had two hits and East had five. Both teams left a lot of runners on base. Duff pitched well for the Vikings in his 1st start. 6 in. 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned, 5 K's. Going to be an interesting season
  9. Boyle Co. opens with Johnson Central at home in Weak 0
  10. Someone answer me this, how can any Coach in the 16th region not vote for Rowan's Martin to be MVP? Martin scored over 50 pts. in three games against a lot better teams and was without a doubt the best player on the court tonight. Griffith is a good player and if her team would have won than I wouldn't have a question. If anyone watched the whole tournament as I did than they can't deny the fact that Katie Martin was the real MVP of this tournament. Katie got drilled by those Coaches who are jealous of her team and of Coach Tackett. Katie Martin played a hell of a tournament and I am sure that she wouldn't trade a trip to Diddle for any MVP award.
  11. Thanks for proving me right. Has Ashland ever lost to anyone in any sport, club, or academic team. Like I have said many times, no one and I mean no one actually beats Ashland. It's always something! Refs, injuries, or coaching moves. Why can't people just face it and admit defeat! The Lady Vikings simply out played Ashland tonight and anyone who was there knows it. The Kittens were whipped in every aspect of the game. Why not just go ahead and admit it. I will say that even though Riddle owned Conner tonight that girl could be as good as she wants to be. Not many girls her age have the hands and footwork she has. Her potential is unlimited and unless someone comes out of the dark she should be the region player of the year next season.
  12. The Lady Vikings took it to the Kittens tonight. The Kittens couldn't match the Lady Vikings intensity and it showed. I really thought Ashland looked lethargic in this game. I mean it’s the semi-finals and Ashland looked like they were asleep. I really expected more out of them but the Lady Vikings owned the Kittens. Jennifer Brockman made life tough on Ashland’s guards. Brockman locked down those girls and they little chance even getting into their offense. How about Amber Riddle tonight? She dominated the much taller Conner and Hanners! Amber played like a Champion underneath tonight and Ashland had no answer. Looks like the Lady Vikings are well on their way to REPEAT!!! One more win Girls and you are there. Don’t wait for it though, go out there tomorrow and take it!! Good luck !!!
  13. Just wondering what teams will be able to start outside tomorrow. Looks to be a good day. 45 and partly sunny. :dancingpa
  14. March 14th Rowan v. Johnson Central @ Rowan March 21th Rowan v. Sheldon Clark @ SC
  15. Rowan Co. will continue to improve this season. Cross and Chin are poised to have big seasons. Also, Brandon Black at MLB will be over looked by a lot of teams but he is as good a linebacker as anyone in this district and region. Coach Brown has this team heading in the right direction. He and his staff will move this team along this season.
  16. I wouldn't pull the starters either. No team has every beat Ashland in anything. There is always some other factor other than the other team is just better than them. RC is the better basketball team and those in Ashland who don't believe this it's time to wake up. Ashland has some nice players but they are not even in the same league as RC. Congrats to Coach T and and the Lady Vikings
  17. All this talk and crying about a full court man defense late in a lopsided game is ludicris. Stop crying about and learn how to beat a full court man to man press! Whine all you want to but it still won't change the outcome. I mean c'mon folks Russell just couldn't handle the pressure at home.
  18. Rowan Co. really played well in this game. They lead after the 1st but went behind untill midway through the 4th. Then Jennifer Brockman took over and lead the Lady Vikings to the win. Manual is the real deal and they deserved their ranking but what stunned me was their in ability to match the intensity of Rowan Co. The Lady Vikings played hard and got after their tail's. I was waiting for Manual to respond but they never did. With Manual's talent and depth they could be unbeatable if they played with the passion and intensity that the Lady Vikings played with tonight. Great Job Ladies!!!! Rowan County Lady Vikings has arrived!! It is up to them to get it done.
  19. Rowan struggled tonight that's for sure. Whenever those boys by in to to coach Thackers system than they will be a solid team. Coach Thacker will get'em there thats for sure.
  20. That's right. The Tigers QUIT, relaying the message to their school, kids, and community that they are not good enough to compete with Johnson Central anymore. That's a sad message to send to kids who have fathers, brother, uncles, and cousins who played in this game and won. Your not good enough but they were. Good message to send to your kids. Johnson Central will benefit more from this than Paintsville. Just sit back and let things unfold.
  21. You know in the old days people commented that teams will come and go but the Apple Bowl would be played long after. What benefit did they get, we lets see 1. It is a long standing tradtion that needs to stay because people who were involved in this game years ago come from all over the map just to see this game and remember the good ole days. 2. This is the one game all year that a lot of people attend because it's the apple bowl. I would almost bet everything that I got that even with a double header the attendence won't equal a Paintsville Jc match up. Therefore money lost 3. It gives both teams a guranteed non district game that they don't have to worry about. Many benefits other than those but go ahead and disagree.
  22. I guess since the truth is out, no one wants to talk about it. I guess it's true that the truth hurts. How about some more truth???? Paintsville football has lived off Johnson County for years! In come Coach Matney and staff, and things change. Paintsville is no longer getting the youngsters from the County because Paintsville is longer the premier program in Johnson County. For years the Apple Bowl was a civil war. It was brother against brother!!! Kids from the County made Paintsville football what it was. Paintsville fans will say other wise but PM me and I will give you a list of players who started in the County and then went to Paintsville. For the past few years that list has taken a dramatic hit. Now for the big ball to drop and it stems from all athletics academics. Paintsville's school system has suffered financially because the enrollment of Johnson Co. students has dropped rapidly. Paintsville administration and others want out of this game so they can compare their program and school with Johnson Central's. This way they can draw kids away and once again win with county kids. Sometimes the truth hurts. But truth is what you ask for and I don’t care to give it to you.
  23. Another impressive showing tonight by the Lady Vikings. Riddle played tough down below leading the scoring tonight I believe. Brockman, Kissinger, and Martin played decent at times but it could have been better. I was excited about the game after the Bath Co. coach commented that they should be able to play with and out Rowan Co. Turned out to be a dud! Great Job Lady Vikings! Keep improving.
  24. This is not a good move for Paintsville to make. They can't draw big enough crowds in every home game for two years and make what they make this single game. The money made on this game pays for their program for a two year period (That is a fact I don't care who says otherwise.) Johnson Central is not going to agree to play a double header and why should they? Splitting the gate will be like Johnson Central fans donating money to Paintsville program because it don't matter who Paintsville plays the crowd for their game isn't going to be near the size of what Johnson Central will draw for their game because there is more interest in JCHS football. You know for years when Paintsville was beating Johnson Central there was no talk about dropping the series. Johnson Central never tried to DODGE Paintsville no matter what. Tiger fans now say “Oh but Paintsville is a singe A school and JCHS is a 5A School,” that didn’t matter ten years ago so don’t buy that. Another excuse you will hear “Neither team benefits from this game.” No, but for years the kids from JCHS were the punch line of jokes and they were looked down upon in their own community. What goes around comes around! Last but not least, the most common excuse Paintsville administration, fans, and coaches use is “well Paintsville wasn’t beating JCHS by 50 every year.” Well my only comment to that one is “Don’t cry and go home. LEARN how to play DEFENSE.”
