rhfan Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Lady Vikings coast on the road...was up 20 with 4 minutes to go...game not as close as score indicates. I thought the game stayed pretty close, until the fourth quarter. Ashland was up by 3 halfway into the 3rd I believe. Rowan has a very good team and are a very scrappy bunch.
biteyainthebutt Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Rowan county girls just keep rolling.
Athena Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 When a team is undefeated and beaten everyone they have faced including the #1 or #2 team Manual, you have to consider them in the top 3 somewhere.

Somebodys gotta be number 3 and they have sure earned at least that. Does anyone know the last time a girls team has gone undefeated in the state ? All of the eggs have not yet hatched but they sure have a good start !
Athena Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Hey hook shot I like your post never heard that saying "All of the eggs have not yet hatched but they sure have a good start" great saying I am going to try and remember it!
HOOKSHOT Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 ^ Well there may be a better one , but I don't like to talk about fat ladies and their singing ability !
Bailey Howell Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Very good game. Rowan up 9 at half, up by 11 in the third. Ashland comes back and takes lead near the end of the third. Connor goes to bench with foul trouble and Rowan goes on big run. Hard fought game, both teams played extremely hard. Great atmosphere at the old Alumni Gym. Nearly 60 FTs shot ( Rowan 38, Ashland 21). Both teams should be proud of their efforts.
16thBBall Fan Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I bet that was fun to watch could play again in the 16th region final.
All Things Considered Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Ashland nor Rowan played their best games first half. Rowan played with great intensity, Ashland had a few crucial lapses of focus. Lady Vikings shut down Ashland's outside shooting but had no answer for Conner inside. Coach Bradley coached a good game, didn't press, stayed in the zone, and utilized his big girls underneath. A rematch of these two teams will be much closer.
Mr.Viking Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Closer? Maybe...maybe not. No way of knowing that. I bet Connor, who played brilliantly, will be defended differently if they play again. As far as the zone goes, nobody will play RC man, so it's not like he reinvented the wheel. I'm sure they knew it was coming. If Rowan knocks down more perimeter jumpers, this one is over early. Interesting that Ashland bills themselves as a pressing, man to man, uptempo team, and then tries to do something just the opposite....identity crisis?

No a good coach knows his team and what they best need to do to have a chnace to win the game. Why play man to man if you know you do not have the personal to match up. I call that good coaching not an identity crisis.

First congrats to both teams - both played hard and IMO was much closer than the 13 point final margin. However, all the credit goes to Rowan as they were able to go on one of their patented runs to finish the game. Rowan still the leader in the 16th by a wide margin. But, I'm confused Viking - You say that Ashland was expected to play man to man but then you say that NO team would play RC man to man. IMO Rowan looked confused against the zone possibly because they planned for the man defense. Looked like versatile coaching by Bradley. Also, Rowan may play Conner differently but that will open up more outside shooting for Strait and Wilcox. Pretty hard to defend it all. Rowan still the definitive #1 right now, but I think this game showed some cracks in Rowan's armor.

But, are you really taking a shot at a coach for making adjustments for giving his team the best chance to win? I would go further and suggest that if he felt the pressing man to man was his best option, he may not want to show it to Rowan before the regional. Nice win by Rowan, just not sure you wanted to go where you did with the breakdown.

Not taking a shot at them, but c'mon, the UT Lady Vols don't play in the 16th, so don't act like any team has so many weapons they can't be guarded. RC has seen zone the last 7-8 games, so they weren't confused...patient might be a better word. They scored 60 in just over 3 quarters against it, before RC pulled them out of it in the 4th. "Cracks in the armor"? We shall see.....
